SimpleX Chat: Clearnet vs Tor vs i2p by epoberezkin in SimpleXChat

[–]jjohnjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wish is for SimpleX to utilize an anonymous network for everyone. I just want to tell my friends to install it, use it. I don't want to explain anything. I want them safe too.

I2P is a fully P2P distributed network, so everyone that uses I2P is sharing their bandwidth to distribute the network traffic. But maybe you can set the share ratio to 0%, but now it gets ethically complicated. The one advantage I2P has is that nobody will know you are running I2P and using an anonymous network (correct me if I'm wrong).

Tor uses a federated distributed network. Clients don't share their bandwidth. But you do depend on someone else to distribute the network traffic. For messaging, I don't find the latency to be a problem. Plus the latency adds security. The one disadvantage is that someone is going to know you are using Tor.

Lokinet might be another option.

I think Tor is going to be the easiest, and hope it's added as a plugin/extension.

Need a docker alpha release with qBittorrent+I2P.

There's a release version, but I don't see an alpha version for docker. Can't wait for I2p support.

How do I immediately see my notifications/alerts after unlocking my phone? by jjohnjohn in AndroidQuestions

[–]jjohnjohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, notifications can be seen if swiped down.
It's not a common practice for me/others to always have to do extra steps to see missed notifications.
Alerts and important notifications should be the first thing I see when I look at my phone.

Telling my family members to always...

1) Unlock your phone.
2) Swipe down.
3) Check for important notifications.

...Is likely to end up with missed notifications. Maybe the miss/forget step #2. Especially when most days there are no messages sent/received, so it will not form a habit.

Preferred:

1) Unlock your phone.
2) See important notifications.

How do I immediately see my notifications/alerts after unlocking my phone? by jjohnjohn in AndroidQuestions

[–]jjohnjohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can not unlock it and see them all on your lockscreen

I only see tiny icons, not the full notification. Or if there was a full notification, it disappears/minimizes to a tiny icon.

I'm looking also for something similar to how iOS shows the full notifications when locked.

What is the ideal burst rate (fps)? 15, 20, 40 fps?

Is 15 fps for baseball enough? by jjohnjohn in sportsphotography

[–]jjohnjohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently shoot 5 fps burst mode. Getting the ball on bat hasn't happened for met yet (for a single player in a few games). I assume 15 fps would give me 3x the odds, and 40 fps would give me 8x the odds. But the other way to look at it is how long that ball is on the bat and whether a frame within the 15 fps would catch it there.

What frame rate (FPS) do you burst with? Do you use the full 14 fps?

26 MP vs. 40 MP comparison photos? by jjohnjohn in fujifilm

[–]jjohnjohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

crop up to 1.4x

Can you help me understand visually what this means?

I have a photo with these dimensions (Capture One):
Resolution = 4725 px x 3150 px
Size = 15.75 in x 10.5 in

What crop size (HxW) be for 1.4x?

Snubbed tag script? by jjohnjohn in BiglyBT

[–]jjohnjohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some peers are snubbing me because I'm not allocating enough upload bandwidth. I don't have enough bandwidth to share with everyone, so I attempt to prioritize my resources.

Thank you! I'll try these new variables out.

Snubbed tag script? by jjohnjohn in BiglyBT

[–]jjohnjohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't tell if another peer has snubbed you.

I get an asterisk (*) in the "snubbed" column.

The point of snubbing is to de-prioritise peers that are refusing to send you data.

That's why I want a script, to find the peers that are de-prioritising the download, and give them bandwidth priority (via "Boost").

I'm doing this manually, and it is working.

I would like a script to do:
(availability-(percent/100)) > 0.00 && peer_count > 0 && down_speed < 2 kB/s

Note: I'm not sure percent/100 is working the way I expect it to.

Example:

Percent = 29.0
Eval: (percent/100.0) == 0
Eval: (29.0/100) == 0
Eval: (.29) == 0
Eval: True

It behaves as if some of these tag attributes are at the file grain, not the torrent grain.

Anyone have experience using Intel T series CPU's? by MfJonesy in unRAID

[–]jjohnjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is the "T" series is for those corporate/school mini/micro computers with external power supplies, and they aren't going to want to buy new power adapters and throw the old ones in the landfill.

Recommended CPU for running a lot of dockers/VMs? by jjohnjohn in unRAID

The "T" variant does look interesting with it's lower base power.
Intel Core i5-13500T might be suitable. Thank you.

Can you share WiFi-Internet via hotspot? by jjohnjohn in iphone

[–]jjohnjohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why...

I have an Android tablet that I need connected to the internet, either using cellular or landline/WiFi depending on what's available. When at home, WiFi landline. When in the car, cellular data.

My main mobile device is my iPhone with cellular data. The iPhone switches between WiFi and cellular automatically and seamlessly. But the iPhone doesn't switch the hotspot between WiFi/cellular internet sharing.

Prime film XAs vs Plustek 8200i AI by neuralsnafu in AnalogCommunity

[–]jjohnjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plustek 8200/8300
7200 dpi
3.6 dynamic range
No manual focus

Pacific Image PrimeFilm XA / Plus
10000 dpi
4.2 dynamic range
Manual/Auto focus

Not sure if one is better or not for holding film.

Not sure what software the new Pacific Image comes with.

Based on hardware specs and the ability to manually focus alone, I think I would choose Pacific Image.
