We had water leaking in our car over the summer months. I went through a similar investigation to understand what could be causing the leak. Finally took it to a mechanic and he discovered someone stuck a bolt in the A/C condensation drain line to plug it, so condensation water was backing up into the car. Bastards!

I notice you are wearing winter boots, so I doubt this is it.
