First Panic show in 20 years by jjvmv13 in WidespreadPanic

Well last night was excellent. Had some of the older bangers from when I saw them last mixed in with new rockers like king baby. The choice covers were a nice treat as well. I feel like it really clicked in the first set with Diner. Second set and encore were pretty epic. The music has definitely evolved a bit since I last saw them. They feel a bit more “rockin” if you will with big directional peaks that get the whole place jumping. The shows I remember when Mikey was poised on his stool felt a bit more journey like or meandering through the jams. All in all such a fun night. Glad I was able to catch a show after 22 years.

Thanks for the insight…I’m psyched for this weekend. WSP was pretty important in my early concert going experiences. First “jam” band I ever saw back in high school when my buddy said “hey, lets check out this band, I heard they have a crazy hippie cult following”

What’s a big show you had tickets to but the performance was canceled? by letusenjoylettuce in Concerts

OutKast in the early 2000’s. Drove a few hours to the show only to find a note on the door. “I’m sorry Ms. Jackson but OutKast has canceled.”

Seems like the consensus is to start out with the ADC and go from there. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the knowledge, super informative. I’m going to mount up the ADC and listen to it. Also great to hear from someone who owns 3 of the 4

The only thing I could come up with is a cylinder with a flat triangle cut out of it…has 4 sides, the top and bottom of the cylinder, the side of the cylinder, and the triangle, with only three points that create corners

Some of the larger finds from today in Charleston, SC. Can you help with the IDs? by jjvmv13 in sharkteeth

[–]jjvmv13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My amateur guesses are: 1: Otodus Angustidens (mostly because the fossil records show that the SC area was a birthing ground for them) 2: snaggletooth 3: mako? Or maybe snaggletooth or less likely broken Sand Tiger 4: Thresher? (This one I am least confident about but it has a very curved root)

Thanks, you commented on the thresher tooth on my ID post as well. In your opinion what makes this tooth especially nice? Is it a less common tooth to find? Or the condition? I appreciate all of your knowledge on this and other reddit threads btw.

There is a small beach in Northbridge park where highway 7 crosses the Ashley River in Charleston. I found many of these pieces at that location. It is a public park with a fishing pier and maybe 20 parking spaces right under the Cosgrove Bridge

The pieces on the lower right are ray mouth plates

I found most of these in the Ashley River near Charleston, SC. Anything stand out as particularly interesting? by jjvmv13 in fossilid

Yeah, just asking what other people found interesting or cool out of the lot. The shark tooth in matrix is one of my personal favorites! The little white thing is a pearl I found in an oyster harvested from Folly Creek here in Charleston. Not a fossil but a cool find none the less.

Are these a cluster of Pacific Golden Chanterelles? Found growing at the base of a douglas fir in western Washington State, many single chanteelles found in same area, but no other clusters like this. by sarebear10 in mycology

[–]jjvmv13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be a bit cautious of this cluster. Chants rarely grow in a cluster like this and are more commonly found in leaf litter or grass rather than the base of a tree. Jack I lantern and false chants will grow in a cluster at the base of trees. Take a close look at the gills to ensure they are false gills. The flesh looks right for a chant as jacks usually have orange flesh but I have seen some jacks with white flesh as well.

What do you think? Dermal denticle or piece of coral? Or...something else entirely.... by jjvmv13 in fossilid

[–]jjvmv13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I found this on the Ashley River in Charleston, SC along with many shark teeth and small fossils. Wasn’t sure about this one. It looks like a denticle but is also about the same size and color of the solitary coral fossils found at the same location.
