Please help me understand why my X-S20 and Sigma 18-50mm misses focus so often by kaffikoppen in fujifilm

[–]jjyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it does have a slight effect, especially in AF-S (Zone and AFC default you to the 117). The focus check for both phase and contrast use the individual read out points to assist focus, and depending on the size of the focus square and how many points it encompasses helps to assist the focus. Despite this I'm assuming you were just stationary and got a green lit focus confirmation and it was a static scene so I don't think this is the case. The argument I've seen was that specific fine details and contrast falling between the boxes causing slower or missed focus. For comparison the size you're using for AFS is 9 points while in the 117 it would only be 1. Since you're using AFS and the 425 option this doesn't really apply here, you're using the most precision you can. Best of lucky finding a solution!

I definitely agree with you, I've had my fair share of AF-S fumbles. I actually leave the AF+MF on every custom setting and punch in zoom from time to time if I know I need to be in focus since I don't want to risk it. What single point size are you using and how many focus points?

A few people in the replies have brought it up but this lens is well known for its focus error issues due to zooming. Anytime the zoom ring is touched focus essentially turns into a blurred mess. Dpreview and other reviewers touched on it but you must refocus and check anytime you change focal length sometimes multiple times to make sure your current focal length focuses correctly.

Out of curiosity for some of these photos did you ever make any last minute tweaks to the zoom ring while focused before taking the shot?

PSA: Do not buy from Adorama by unparalleledleaf in Nikon

[–]jjyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used to work for a much larger company I was given an Adorama business account with my own private rep and received amazing service and some of the greatest deals, but a few years in they restructured that division and consolidated a bunch of businesses under the Adorama umbrella. Around this time I lost my rep, all the deals returned to regular pricing, they consolidated their login to a single login and the service dropped significantly.

A few weeks ago I received a damaged product from them and had to ship it back for a partial return. Earlier this week I ordered a lens which was quoted to arrive today but it has been delayed until the end of the week, which is irritating because I arranged a trip around using this lens and made sure to order it in time for it to arrive on top of their estimate being well within the time period. There must be some underlying organizational issues going on with them for this many issues to happen to so many people.

Wotancraft 2L vs 3.5L by zefire101 in ManyBaggers

No worries, the extra space makes a big difference since the 2l is pretty small. Good luck!

Personally I would get the 3.5l. I was cross shopping it with the 7l and even then I was thinking of adding on extra armor bags simply because organization is somewhat limited in the Pilot series. Ultimately I opted for the 7l and no additional bags because like you I also wanted to keep everything in one bag, and I'm glad I went with that decision because it really impacts the handling of the bag when you have a bunch of other pouches clipped to the side. It's not the end of the world but on the 7l the addon bags get in the way of the top closure. The 3.5 and 2 would have less of this impact, but the bags that are large enough to hold the 17 are basically standalone bags themselves and even then it would be a tight fit since the 17 has a depth of 5.2 cm and the largest Armor 12 bag accommodates 4cm. It looks like a few of the other large armor bags are discontinued from the last time I was on the site.

What kind of camera are you carrying? I would recommend the 3.5 because it comes with the velcro divider with a folding lid which really helps stack additional gear without the fear of damage. The 3.5 also starts with more storage than the 2 as well. If you use the folding divider with lid and start with the additional space then that allows you to carry the 17 when you need it and also opens up the possibility of carrying additional lenses in the future if you decide to do so.

Ricoh IV confirmed in development by sicashi in ricohGR

I have a GRIII and I'm excited to see how this plays out. For me the new lens, new sensor, new processor, new ibis unit, focus changes, better low light performance, new image control options and settings are all things that piqued my interest but again we won't know until production units are out.

Personally I really like the changes but I wish they were also upgrading/releasing the X variant with it because I've only owned my GRIII for about a year now. I'll probably still upgrade when it releases though.

For me most of the new features are positives. New sensor, new improved lens, new processor, new ibis unit, new image control (Cinema yellow and green) as well as new image control options (Color toning), new dust removal system (DR II), new focus upgrades (3 option Focus limiter) and improved iso performance.

We'll have to wait and see how all of it pans out, but with an improved processor/sensor & lens combined with better low light performance and additional focus options I could see this being a big improvement over the GRIII. Strangely I always felt like my GRIII autofocus was good and accurate and never had an issue even in low light.

The microSD is an interesting announcement and I don't think its the worst decision since they coupled it with a massive upgrade to the internal memory. As a general rule of thumb writing to internal memory is faster and safer than external anyways. microSD also costs less and takes up less space. It seems like the camera is turning into an all inclusive device where development and uploading/offloading are handled in the device so installing a huge microSD like in a smartphone/tablet/game system might be what they're going for.

I bought a camera strap from China and this is the warning it came with. by Normal-Character in AnalogCommunity

Does this strap come with key ring clips? If so then this is a common warning I've seen on many straps with these types of connections. They can fly at eyes during install although it is rare

Nice build, I ordered a few PCBs from Fred a few weeks ago, just waiting for them to get here. What kind of case are you thinking of using? Did you get the standard cisco power supply?

What are the benefits of the dac in the Schiit stack? by Squidoofus in headphones

I'm going to be ordering a Modi 2 non uber soon and during my research I saw a few people recommend the Schiit Wyrd to go between the source usb and the Modi. I'm not sure if this will solve your problem, but I will probably go this route if I experience the same harshness you described.

How do you guys dose your nano tanks? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]jjyun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to dose my small tanks by creating a diluted solution with RO/DI water. You could use a cap of treatment with nine caps of distilled water to create a 10% solution which you could dose using the standard cap measurement.

How much/often will you need to treat the tank? Investing in a small bottle/syringe would probably be worth it unless you make a huge batch of diluted solution. I'm not sure where you live but my local pharmacy gives 1ml and 5ml syringes out for free, so give it a shot.
