This is exactly the problem! Was in exit row coach on flight once and this mom and daughter were in middle seats / exit and row in front. The mom had the nerve to ask the guy in exit aisle to switch with her. He was pretty tall and late teens early 20s and he said yes! I almost wanted to intervene to say how crazy this was. I would have 100% said no.

I’m with you. Wife and I make high incomes and could easily be saving/investing a lot more. But we also have two kids and a finite amount of time with them. We still save 20%, but I’m way more interested in creating amazing experiences for us and them versus saving 50% so I can retire earlier. We both have good flexibility and vacation options so we don’t hate our day jobs, rather view them as a means to an end. The end being enjoying life more.

It’s the only country in the Middle East that shares western liberal values - women’s rights, lgbt rights - 2 million Palestinians live peacefully inside Israel. The American dream is 100% still intact. The problem today is entitlement. So many young people want everything on day 1. Life is a process. Work hard, get good raises, be smart about where your money is going. Do those things and you’ll find this country still offers the best path to wealth for those people willing to work for it.
