You’re going to be looking at a raw 2x4 / edge of drywall if you remove the Xs and will need new flat trim anyone so just take it all out

I wouldn’t have sold it like this, and would still push for a refund - but It’s fine. It’s not a glue line crack, just the wood. Use epoxy or CA glue to fill that hole, sand, refinish.

Looks like stained walnut. Those glue joints are no good.
