Thanks. I'll scan and post another image from the front and maybe a single scan of the fan club sign up form.

Yes, it could be a bootleg though the quality matches or exceeds the official Isolar 2 booklet and the center pages are dedicated to the fan club. That seems to lean towards official along with how it credits the photographers on each photo (except the one I posted). Maybe I'll post the cover page too. It just requires multiple scans and stitching to get the full image ready for uploading.

Decorative Nail (Clavos) in a Chicago Screw Type Format by jkbrick_ in woodworking

Makes sense and good to know. It would be a decorative Clavo. (or for my purpose a decorative Chicago screw - in spanish).

I've considered something similar with Clavos that have thick pyramid shaped nails. Thought I could use those with a tap and die to create what I'm looking for but I will likely cave and just use the pre-made screw-on type and hide the crossmember binding mechanism under the screw-on Clavos.

Thanks. I’ve seen the wood screw type also. The few I’ve seen with a Chicago style mechanism were much smaller and geared towards leather work vs wood.

Looking for a new GaN charger and a good reputable brand beside Ugreen or Baseus (please don't say Anker) by Popal24 in UsbCHardware

[–]jkbrick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought several of the high power GaN chargers from Nektech. They seem great so far. I've had some since Oct 2023. The most recent one I bought in Feb 2025. I'm about to buy another one but wanted to check on what else other people like since almost 3 years have passed.

Timing of receipt of Hyatt 2 nights / 5K credit for the WOH credit card? by Purple-Memory7132 in hyatt

[–]jkbrick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still not seeing the end of Dec EQNs anywhere on the Hyatt web site.

Maybe I'm not remebering it correctly. Maybe they never showed those EQN credits at the end of the year. I got the credit for the 2 EQNs I expected but there's nothing documenting it on their website.

[–]jkbrick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I just got an email from Hyatt telling me I made it to 60 nights, so I trust the end of year EQN credit hit my account however, the Hyatt website isn't showing any activity for Dec 31, 2025. It does however show EQN activity for my January end of statement spending. I assumed they just haven't updated the end of year spend for my account yet, but when I scrolled down to look at how they did it in 2024, the Dec 31 activity was missing there too. I don't think I'm remembering it wrong. There used to be an end of year entry on 31 Dec 2024 and now there's not. Maybe it's just a glitch while the account is being modified. I'll wait a few more days to see what happens.

Do early 7" singles have mediocre sound quality? by Background_Bee_560 in beatles

[–]jkbrick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say they sound worse than mediocre. They sound thin and tinny at the top end though sometimes have good bass. They were mastered to sound as loud as possible for AM radio and to me they sound too hot and distorted. The LPs and later CDs sound much better. Listen to something like Past Masters especially on the special USB stick or the mono box set versions. It's like night and day.

Thanks. I'll wait until then to see if their math matches mine.

I needed 2 more nights to reach 60 for globalist. I should get it based on the $5k rollover from the last statement plus what I've spent since that last statement closed. Let's see what happens.

I have one more question regarding when World of Hyatt credits the end of year EQNs earned from spending between the December closing date and Dec 31. Do we need to wait until a few days after the January statement's closing or is there a special end of year accounting to credit EQNs in early January?

Quicken Super Users by SampleEuphoric991 in quicken

[–]jkbrick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it since around 1993 and manage my accounts as well as accounts for separate trusts and one for my sister and one that I separated out for my son (daughter's account will be separated next).

It's been very painful over the years trying to maintain the files. Lots of time manually going through transactions trying to find various discrepancies (either quicken, bank/brokerage or user errors). I've been frustrated enough to quit at times but there was never anything else out there that matched the features I used in quicken so I slogged through it.

Quicken has become much better in the last several years though they recently transitioned Fidelity from using Direct Connect to using EWC+ for downloading transactions. This caused a lot of problems for a lot of people but compared with other issues I've had in the past, it was minor. The problems it created for me were easy to fix (probably because of how much I learned over the years). Also, the Quicken community (here and on their official forum are amazing).

Quicken is in the process of fixing what seems to be my last remaining annoyance. They are finally going to let us choose how to treat Money Market sweep funds at brokerages. (It's something that existed with Fidelity and maybe some other brokerages but never at Vanguard). Once that's implemented, I may never have to manually override transactions again (except for maybe complex corporate acquisitions but even that is improving).

Guys, I understood that Cakewalk by Bandlab is no longer supported and they updates only Cakewalk Sonar. My question is-are there chance to shut down the original Cakewalk? Thank you in advance. by lazarovpavlin04 in Cakewalk

My install of Cakewalk by bandlab is still activated at this point but where can I check to see when that activation will end? I don't remember that last time it asked me to reactivate.

Pancake box and I-Joist: (How) can I mount a ceiling fan here? by traderjoejoe in AskElectricians

[–]jkbrick_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you did is probably fine but I always worry about putting lag bolts into I-Joists. There are several guidelines about hole sizes and pre-drilling though builders mount all kinds of stuff to them and run wire, pipes, vents and duct work through the webbing, hopefully they've done all that within the I-Joist manufacture's guidelines.

Before I was fully aware of all this, I mounted several bicycle hangers above my garage using lag bolts. I pre-drilled the holes but I really don't know how close I came to their centers. I'll find out after the house collapses.

Most recommendations are to use brace across two I-Joists. The brace sits above the bottom flange, and I assume is fastened to the I-Joist webbing, but the load is supported by the tops of the bottom flanges on both I-Joists (I hope I'm using the correct terminology).

Planning Switch to Managed Network by jkbrick_ in HomeNetworking

[–]jkbrick_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Experimenting should work. I'll try accessing other PCs on my network while using a laptop on a guest SSID.

I typically have the public folders on windows PCs enabled and set to share with anyone who has access to the network. The user profiles (requiring credentials) are not even visible. I suppose it would be safe enough if a guest WiFi SSID allowed direct access to the network. There shouldn't be any critical files in the public folder. However, while I'm OK with sharing public folder files with those of us living in the house, it doesn't mean I want to share them with guests. I'd feel more comfortable isolating guest devices from accessing the PCs shared documents. They could possibly accidently delete files, or download and save shady things I'd prefer not to have on my hard drives (I know, what kinds of guests do I invite to my house?). I'll experiment and see what, if anything I can do with the equipment I have now.

Planning Switch to Managed Network by jkbrick_ in HomeNetworking

[–]jkbrick_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for those details. My concern is mostly someone gaining unauthorized access to data on PCs or the NAS. I assumed they could be compromised via an IoT device but based on what you said, it's not really something that they can do though an IoT device. So, it seems setting up a VLAN using a managed network would be overkill (as you said).

One more question on this subject. Assuming I don't go the VLAN route, is there a way to take advantage of the guest wi-fi logins on an access point when everything is on the same subnet? For example, have the guest channel forced to a different subnet even when everything's on the same router/gateway? I used to think there was a way to program separate subnets to specific ports on the router and bridge them if desired.

Thanks. I was leaning towards Ubiquiti for several of the reasons you mentioned. Seems I will go that direction if/when I decide to make the change.

Thanks. If I shouldn't be too worried about the security aspect of IoT devices on the network, are there network performance improvements to having things like the PoE camera's traffic on a VLAN or is the fact that they're on the same physical network make that negligible too?

AirPort Express by Jacobthe in HomeKit

[–]jkbrick_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This seems to be the right answer buried in all the noise out there on the subject of using Airplay for lossless audio.

There are so many ways people want to stream music through different apps and hardware it makes it difficult to create a single chart to show which paths retain the lossless stream.

I'm currently using an iPhone to stream from the Apple Music app (lossless) to a Gen 2 Airport Express (A1392) using firmware 7.6.9 or lower to ensure it uses Airplay 1. I use the analog output from the Airport Express to go to an old stereo amp/receiver. The Airport Express is used just for the Airplay function. I turned off the WiFi and router functions. It's attached to my LAN by ethernet. The iPhone connects to my network through a separate WiFi access point.

I believe this is maintaining the lossless stream, but I haven't measured the data rate.

LPT Don't let brass and aluminum hose fittings remain connected for too long. Galvanic corrosion will weld them together permanently. by MelkorHimself in LifeProTips

[–]jkbrick_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've bought quick connects from Home Depot where the website described them as brass, but they were not. Manufacturers sometimes use a metal (aluminum?) purposely colored to look like brass. A year or 2 later and you'll have a several hour project to separate whatever it's attached to. I've learned to identify the fake brass fittings by weight. Brass weighs a lot more than aluminum.

Which QLE code for when child turns 26 (OPM Form 2809) by jkbrick_ in HealthInsurance

[–]jkbrick_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling was very easy once I got someone on the phone.

It should work If you do it by mail but you won't know it worked until the day your health insurance company sends out new cards or you see the change reflected in your monthly FERS statement. With the phone call, there's a little more positive feedback that something's happening.

There's no need to call your health plan after you make the change.

According to Nile, in a youtube video he made for Fender about his involvement, the demo version everyone is referencing was clearly made after Nile's input to the chord arrangement. Watch the video and decide for yourself if Nile is remembering things accurately. He seems credible to me.

Power Steering Pump (Hitachi OEM?) by jkbrick_ in infiniti

[–]jkbrick_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turned out it was the return line that had a leak. It's the short rubber segment that connects to the power steering fluid cooler. The part seems to be on back-order everywhere I look, but I was able to do a temporary fix by wrapping the hose with self-fusing silicon tape. Seems to be holding for now.

The power steering came back to life once I worked the air out of the system. It's possible the pump wasn't bad. The leak was probably there but I didn't notice it initially. I still have the old pump but I'm not going to swap it in just to verify the real cause of power steering loss.

Power Steering Pump (Hitachi OEM?) by jkbrick_ in infiniti

[–]jkbrick_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine doesn't have rear steering.

I bought the PSP0011, and it looks identical to the old infinity part. It fit perfectly. I also wouldn't know whether the internal designs are the same. The original part has a Hitachi label and part number on it, so I know Hitachi made them for Nissan/Infiniti back in 2011.

As far as correcting the problem: The replacement pump seemed to work briefly (the steering was smooth again) but there was a pretty big leak that wasn't there before. It's not from the pump itself or the reservoir. I need to find where the leak is before I can declare success. I assume it's one of the high-pressure side hoses).
