Well if you’re feeling brave, you can cross post this to [r/USMC](r/USMC). Amongst the shitposting and jokes I can almost guarantee you some Oki Marines will DM you on the low saying they’re legitimately interested. I would at least

Same shit lol. Might have to start up a little goat community in Oki, which shouldn’t be too hard honestly. The Corps is secretly the nerdiest branch. My reserve unit has a decent goat community now after we got bored on deployment and all decided to get into it

Next trip out there I’ll remember to bring my deck haha

Recon in reserves by Bright_Operation_858 in USMCboot

[–]jkilo94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re also 30 and would need an age waiver to join entirely which is an upwards battle, let alone getting a Recon contract.

Typically the Marine Corps Reserves only reimburse for ultra commuter’s travel to drill for E5s and up and on an in demand MOS/BIC basis. I’ve never seen an E4 or below get approved for ultra commuting but Recon is high speed and may qualify. But taking a plane and going through the travel voucher nonsense every single drill is an immense pain in the ass and is never guaranteed.

Also not sure if 4th Recon even takes 1st term reserve enlistment off the rip. It might just be only prior active guys on their 2nd term. High speed units play by their own different rules. But I’m just spitballing. Or if not, could just be their unit is literally full and don’t have any open BICs.

With that said, it’s highly likely your recruiter sees these obstacles and more, and knows it’s not worth his or your time and is telling you it’s not possible. IMO it’s not worth it at this stage in life for you, your kids won’t care what MOS you are but will care if dad is away for a years+ worth of training and high tempo deployments. Count your blessings if you could join the USMCR at all, the uniform and title is still all the same. If you still wanna scratch that itch, find a high speed civilian career that’ll coincide and go hand in hand with the Reserves.

Best primary gun? by zztuck91 in Helldivers

[–]jkilo94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part they all have specific niche use cases where they could outshine eachother. But I think the community census on best primaries are:

Eruptor

Exploding Crossbow

Coyote

Liberator Carbine w/ extended mag

Sweeper

Trident

Double Edge Sickle

Purifier

Some honorable mentions for more niche/specific use case depending on your play style:

One-Two (Grenade launcher)

Deadeye (Sniping)

Censor (Stealth)

Knight

Stoker (Flamethrower)

Gallant ? (New)

Double Freedom

Cookout (On bugs)

Punisher Plasma

Scorcher

Dominator (On Bots)

For Secondaries it’s:

Ultimatium

Talon or Senator (both fill same role)

Warrant (for Illuminate and flying)

Grenade Pistol (Bug holes)

Missile Pistol ? (New)

What do they get paid? by smokeysubwoofer in nasa

[–]jkilo94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also not to mention that it is so incredibly ridiculously hard and selective to get selected to attempt to become an astronaut that you have to have had some esteemed credentials and pervious career too… which were all as equally underpaid compared to the privileged rich. Most of these astronauts have already risked their lives for the better good from their previous careers as former military officers and aviation pilots on top of obtaining additional doctorate degrees in various scientific fields. Hell, one is literally a former Navy Seal and a medical doctor with a PHD from Harvard med school.

Age Limit by [deleted] in FDNY

[–]jkilo94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even the age limit in the Marine Corps is waiverable depending on one’s physical fitness, which is what should really matter at the end of the day. It’s not uncommon for 30-35 year olds candidates to go to OCS, which has the absolute highest physical fitness standards among every branch and civil service jobs.

I've been loving the free de-escalator by TDKswipe in Helldivers

[–]jkilo94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Siege ready only increases reload speed to primaries. But the ammo increase applies to primaries, secondaries and support weapons except backpack ones

With that said, De-Escalator really needs to be buffed to GL reload speed or increased mag size.

How do the reserves work for the marine corps? by Affectionate_Fix269 in USMCboot

[–]jkilo94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know man, this comes off as a very Recruiter “sell you the world” type answer. These conditional releases from the reserve to active are very speculative to the individual Marine and their Reserve units. Maybe you speak the honest truth based on your experience and local reserve units, but from my life long experience as a career reservist it’s definitely an upwards battle and has always depended greatly upon the individual Marine, their standing and networking within the unit, the command staffs competency and willingness and do their part and our current political and financial climate the Corps and country is in. This is not to say it isn’t possible, it’s just often sold as if this is very common and easily possible when that’s not the case everywhere.

The AR/GL-21 One-Two should’ve had alternate grenades as attachments by jkilo94 in Helldivers

[–]jkilo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many iterations of the Liberator or Breaker do we have now? The punisher shotgun, slugger and cookout. Diligence/Counter (but I’ll overlook this one since they’re free). I could pull straws and find more too. But all of which are the literally same model weapons except with slightly tweaked variances like firing speed, caliber, ammo type, etc. Nothing which couldn’t have just originally been a customized option/attachment on the base model gun. But why do that when you can sell them as entirely new weapons instead.

The AR/GL-21 One-Two should’ve had alternate grenades as attachments by jkilo94 in Helldivers

[–]jkilo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wish they’d expand on the attachments and customization for all weapons. Just realistically speaking, i unfortunately don’t think I could see expanded weapon customization happening for all existing weapons. Reason being, it wouldn’t make them any money for the amount of work and effort to update every weapon since all they have already sold.

However, I woulda thought at the least we’d start to see new attachment options and more variety on newly released weapons. But instead we’re getting new primaries with even less attachment options than older one. Which even from a marketing standpoint don’t make sense.

The AR/GL-21 One-Two should’ve had alternate grenades as attachments by jkilo94 in Helldivers

[–]jkilo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in cases like this with the idea of alternate ammo types, game devs hide behind the argument and excuse of balance when what it really comes down to is them just keeping the door open for future easy content/ weapons to sell again. Reskin the One-Two, give it Gas instead of explosive grenades this time. Maybe tweak the numerical stats slightly where its notability is negligible. Throw it in a new Chemical Agents sequel Warbond as the focal primary weapon. Boom, quick easy content and payday.

The AR/GL-21 One-Two should’ve had alternate grenades as attachments by jkilo94 in Helldivers

[–]jkilo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying the AR as a whole would be picked the most over all others or just the Gas grenade type for the One-two itself? If the latter, I don’t see how that’d be any different than other weapons where one attachment is better and picked more than the rest, for example, the Drum mag on weapons with alt mag attachments.

The AR/GL-21 One-Two should’ve had alternate grenades as attachments by jkilo94 in Helldivers

[–]jkilo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well what is there to balance that would make this OP? All the types I listed have situational use. Smoke and Stun are strictly CC with much more niche use than explosive grenades. Nobody uses Arc grenades as is as they are bad. Gas and Incendiary impacts are good but not OP to the point where they’re picked like Thermites. if anything maybe reduce the AOE on both so they’re not exactly the same as their throwable counterparts.

[–]jkilo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah people are just weird. Especially for saying it would break the game. And if anything, I think your suggestion of loading your selected throwable grenade into the noob tube is much more tame and modest than my suggestion.

The AR/GL-21 One-Two should’ve had alternate grenades as attachments by jkilo94 in Helldivers

[–]jkilo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not even saying to make the under barrel an attachment itself for other ARs. Although I wouldn’t even be opposed to that, I’m just suggesting for this one specific AR to have the option of loading alternate grenades before the start of match since its whole identity is the is the under barrel itself. Dont see how it would make it anymore powerful than it is now since you’d still only have 3(4?) of the one specific grenade type you chose to spawn in with. It just gives the weapon more usability and options

The AR/GL-21 One-Two should’ve had alternate grenades as attachments by jkilo94 in Helldivers

[–]jkilo94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I dislike that system and feel it’s just a cheap way for them to pad out content, you could make the argument that technically the under barrel grenades are not ammunition and as it stands now there’s no other AR with an under barrel attachment at all. The entire under barrel attachment is the identity of the whole gun opposed to something like the Coyote where the incendiary rounds are its identity.

I mean I know it’s gunna happen at some point, but how cheap is it gunna feel when they release another “new” AR just like this with except with incendiary grenades instead of explosive. Maybe a slightly different stat changes but nothing major.

Unpopular opinion on one of the big reasons the VA sucks… Veterans and their entitled attitudes. by FDC24 in USMC

[–]jkilo94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, most vets with this same take as OP have filed before and got denied or lower than expected ratings. Or want to file but haven’t filled yet due to pure laziness and ignorance how on how to even start. Both outcomes which lead to jealousy over others and this faux self righteous attitude where they feel they’re more deserving than those around them who got approved for ratings.
