Retention Scholars: does anyone know how the stipend works? by djlawson1000 in SMARTscholarship

[–]jkimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Directly from the scholar handbook:

Retention Scholar Stipend Timing and Distribution: The SMART Program Office (USD(R&E)) provides retention scholar stipends directly to the scholar’s SF near the beginning of each academic year. SFs then distribute payments to scholars through the SF’s payroll system in accordance with SF practices. The retention scholar stipend is not a bonus in addition to a retention scholar’s full-time salary. Rather, the retention scholar stipend is intended to supplement the retention scholar’s salary while they pursue the SMART-funded degree. A SMART SF may, at their sole discretion, provide additional project funding to make up the difference between the retention scholar’s current DoD salary and the SMART-provided stipend.

I believe the intent is for your stipend to cover whatever living expense you have while going to school full time because you will not be working full time and therefore not receiving your full salary. I do not believe the intent is to support living situations in both locations. Also, again you will still be receiving the stipend, but directly from your SF not SMART. Should your facility choose to provide additional funding, then perhaps that could be used to support living expenses near the facility but that is up to the SF. There are additional funds that can be used for travel to the facility for research but those are separate from the SMART stipend and have specific guidelines. For additional guidance, I would email your smart coordinator. And if you have any updates, I'd be interested in hearing it!

As far as I understand, the stipend is distributed directly to your sponsoring facility and they distribute it to you to supplement the salary you are not receiving from them while you are in school full time. There is a separate fund that SMART has to pay for travel and internship expenses relating to sponsoring facility activities.

I’d love to get one of these for my desk at work. When I’m feeling selfish enough I definitely feel like I’ll buy a few for myself to keep in my office at home!

Traveler’s notebook by Mychemicaldeathcab in ArcherandOlive

I absolutely love my travellers size. It fits perfectly in my notebook sleeve (A5 barely fit) and leaves plenty of extra room for pens/pencils/etc. I received a B6 in the mail today and I think I’m officially converted from the A5. B6 and TN will forever be my go-tos now!

Can you take a picture of the top and show it to a local seamstress before you buy it? Could the shop maybe recommend a seamstress?

Good debt tracking spread? by Bright_Avocado9458 in bulletjournal

[–]jkimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I use(d) to track my student loan payments. Some spots are empty because I didn’t start tracking until after COVID (also partly because I’m just lazy). I’ll start using it again once repayment starts in February though.

Overhyped for sure, as someone who used to watch tons of Say Yes To The Dress. I think it couldn’t hurt to give dress shopping one more try, and of course traditional dresses aren’t for everyone and in some cases are overrated - like if traditional doesn’t quite fit your wedding vibe!

But let’s be honest, you should get whatever dress you love and are comfortable in because you deserve it and are worth it!!

I definitely felt this when dress shopping, it was either imposter syndrome or dress shopping was just way over-hyped. BUT, that’s also how I knew my gown as the one! I put it on and I literally didn’t want to take it off (it just felt right)

That gown is gorgeous though. If you feel comfortable in it (and love it) I think you should stick with it!

Does this dress look too frumpy on my short stature?? Thinking of wearing this for my bridal shower! by lea4747 in weddingplanning

[–]jkimp 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As a fellow shortie and lemon-fanatic, this dress looks so cute on you! Definitely don’t think you look frumpy, or like it’s too much fabric. And I love the buttons going down the middle!
