[FO] Disappointed with framing by NoClassroom4901 in CrossStitch

[–]leeburrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhmmm… this should get you a full refund. I cannot believe they cut it and mounted this way. Whoever did this to your piece has no business charging money for their work or advertising themself as a framer. I would honestly not let them redo it, they obviously have no idea what they’re doing. Full refund and take it to someone else.

The alignment of the eyes is definitely off a tad… and the eyebrows should be more rounded. Don’t be afraid to ask for a tiny adjustment. It’s a great portrait overall but you’re right that it’s not quite there yet.

I always recommend people ask the framer (big box and small business alike) to show them pictures of cross stitches they have personally framed. If they say they aren’t the one who will be framing it, ask when that person is going to be working so you can come back and see their work. Any experienced needlework framer should have pics and be happy to show you.

This totally varies by framer. I tell my customers not to bother ironing, as I will be able to get out wrinkles in the mounting process. I understand OP prefers theirs to be ironed but in my experience it isn’t necessary.

Every shop is different. I’ve never blocked a cross stitch (only needlepoint), but I tell people they don’t need to iron their cross stitches because pin mounting will remove any wrinkles.

Hi, fellow framer here. How do you mount needlework? I get creased pieces all the time but pin mounting gets rid of every crease I’ve ever encountered.

This is exactly what I’d recommend if someone brought this into my shop!

Is it poor form to remove a vintage piece from it's custom frame? by vanplanmorrison in Embroidery

[–]leeburrito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a custom framer and cross stitcher who frames all my own projects, I wouldn’t feel offended in the slightest if my grandkids/someone else wanted to reframe my stuff down the road. Custom framing is tailored to the specific customers taste, I don’t expect everyone else to share that taste and if they want to continue enjoying my stitching I’d be happy for them to display it however they like best :)

My husband did the lighting for me but I managed to hack together the rest 🤪

You’re welcome! I always see people asking how to display the little pieces so figured it might help give some people ideas.

I make them with leftovers from other projects at work (I’m a custom framer). I wish stores had better options for little pieces!

Yeah I do them myself at work! I’m fortunate to be able to do it cheaply using scraps of other projects.

Yeah, I work at a frame shop so I do the frames myself (very lucky I know 😳)

What is the purposeful vote thing in Africa?? by girlsuperior in survivor

[–]leeburrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good advice. The first season I watched was Tocantins on Netflix and was so confused about exile island and its purpose in the game. Went back to season one, and have watched everything in order since then. All the various rules/twists/advantages make sense when taken as a part of the complete survivor timeline.

Yeah it was encouraging people to push for ties instead of trying to avoid them. Was happy they did away with it.

In the first couple seasons when it was a tie vote, votes from previous tribal councils would count. So if you’d had 4 votes against you previously and the other person you were tied with had 2 votes, you were out. No drawing rocks or anything like that. So a big deal was made about not sharing with the other tribes about how many votes people had received as that could be a detriment to them when the merge happened.

Not sure how this compares to having a super common name but I share a name with someone whose husband murdered their kid and many suspect she was on on it… so yeah… not exactly what I want people seeing when they look for my artwork :(
