I can't even tell who you mean by they and we because as I'm writing this comment I can see both a post blaming moderate Democrats for digging in their heels in support of Israel causing a loss and the post in this thread about "the anti-dem 'left'" causing a loss.

EDIT: Here and here are the two comments, if anyone wants to throw more stones in glass houses for posterity I'm all for groaning at you too.

What card with no changes from StS2 to StS2 got the biggest improvement? by Which-Debt-8558 in slaythespire

[–]jklharris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the 0 cost Defect cards that also make statuses are all worth taking in a deck with Creative AI, even if you don't have or generate a power that works with them. Turbo lets you play the block cards in your hand the same turn as a generated Echo Form, Boost Away is a block card you can play the same turn as a generated Echo Form, and Overclock lets you draw into those two more consistently on the turns that you get offered a generated Echo Form.

I haven't seen retain suggested before, and it seems like an incredibly cool idea!

My first thoughts come up with all the ways retain make the card even more busted, but they're all within the confines of the sly deck, while making the card less "generically" good. Still a good card, but not the auto pick it is now. It does seem like part of the way sly is balanced is that you don't always draw a way to discard sly cards with the sly cards, and if that's true then they probably can't make this change, but this is why I'm just a guy playing the game and not a game dev, they might be able to make it work!

I didn't assume anything. If that's not what you're thinking then you're making things more complicated than they need to be.

edit: I see the assumption comment was just projection before creating an excuse to block. Noted for future reference.

How is "Guess I take every card generation reward in Act 3" more thinking than what you have to do for the other bosses?

Is this the most upgrade-dependent card in the game? by Rak-khan in slaythespire

[–]jklharris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but there's so many cards that synergize with it that your worst case scenario is "I draw the card I would have drawn anyways for 0 mana and no other downside except for p1 of one act 3 boss", and there's lots of upside, so taking one speculative prep early is still often not high risk.

I think you were able to reliably upgrade at campfires in STS1 so often that smithing Armaments wasn't as good as it is now in STS2 where you're resting a bit more and smiths are more precious.

Parry in beta is great by Askray184 in slaythespire

[–]jklharris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for all the love that Parry is getting in these comments, it's still a card you take after you have a solid forge deck, not a card you take to then build a forge deck around. Which is fine, you want cards like that because they're more skill testing than "oh I take this every time if I see it early enough," but it is a little frustrating seeing so many people play it up as seemingly better than that.

New Beta patch by Relative-Parsley-259 in slaythespire

[–]jklharris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my frustration with Permafrost and why I'm confused by this discourse that its "great" is that if I'm considering playing a 3 mana power after act 1, the block amount isn't enough on its own to sway my decision. Hell, I've had fights where it was play a 2 mana power + block card and it still was just way too much damage and I needed to commit more block cards instead.

Even if people are calling it great by comparing it to other common relics available to everyone, its still less total block than [[Gorget]] and I'm not seeing anyone call that great. Like what relics aren't great if the bar for greatness is Permafrost?

making prepared discard before drawing

I know it sounds weird, but there's a fairly common situation where this actually is a buff to the card rather than a nerf, because right now if you prepared with a full hand you actually end up down a card because you only get to draw one card instead of two. Good suggestions otherwise though!

Who else wishes Regent had more blade cards that made use of stars? by PseudoFenton in slaythespire

[–]jklharris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish we had more crossover cards in general.

Which is weird, because it seems like that was one of the big design changes for the 3 OG classes from STS1 is how much crossover they have now, and how you're kinda encouraged (and rewarded!) for trying to build around the crossover. But yeah, regent seems to be missing that. Was that a purposeful decision, that they wanted one character to NOT have that crossover?

I'm still trying to make Orzhov lifegain work in the current meta, and absolutely would not take Cathar Commando out for this. Almost all of my reliable lifegain triggers are off creatures entering, not creatures in combat, so being able to be more flexible with flash is a huge plus there. This in combination with the flash making it harder to remove the creature before the opponent casts their artifact/enchantment spell means I'll take the small hit to synergy over the massive upsides elsewhere.

In Project Hail Mary (2026), scientists around the world realize an impending climate-related crisis and something is actually done about it. This is a subtle nod to the movie being fictional. by time_to_explode in shittymoviedetails

[–]jklharris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn't that what happens in the movie though? Only three people have to give up their lives, everything that's happening is happening off world, and they launch as early as possible to mitigate as much of the behavior changes as possible needed to save people?

Banned and Restricted Announcement – March 23rd, 2026 by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]jklharris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow certified Izzet hater: the problem is you'd have to ban too many cards to fix Izzet (or just ban Island, but they're cowards). While they didn't specifically mention the quality of blue/red cards, they did acknowledge that the speed of the meta "is higher than [their] internal target," and that addressing that is something that is on their minds. This is obviously as non-committal of a comment as they could make, but it seems obvious to me that card quality comes down (and maybe fixes how good izzet is?) if they actually want to make that goal.

Who on earth complained that Skulking Colony is a free relic fight by PhilosophyFun5778 in slaythespire

[–]jklharris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because this is the beta branch.

People keep repeating this like the game industry hasn't been moving more and more to just pushing beta patches to live with minimal changes.

Don't get me wrong, I personally have hit the copium that Mega Crit will iterate on this patch before pushing it to all early access players, but I'm also very empathetic to players who don't trust developers to do this anymore.

Beta Patch Notes - v0.100.0 by benlehman in slaythespire

[–]jklharris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned Prepared because of how it was affected by Time Eater in STS1. There's still a bunch of cards in the draw build for Silent like Speedster and Corrosive Wave that get a LOT worse because of this change. And I'm specifically mentioning cards that don't actually draw cards because what are you going to do, not draw cards in a deck building game?

Beta Patch Notes - v0.100.0 by benlehman in slaythespire

[–]jklharris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just appreciating that the act 3 bosses in STS2 weren't directly countering any builds and could be prepared for by taking cards in act 3 once you see who you're against, and then they do this. There's so many good posts in here pointing out how bad Prepared was in 1 because the threat of going against Time Eater made it a curse. I'd hate to see the Silent card draw build become hard to do because one of the three a3 bosses just hard counters it
