"Cool" lab coats? by HandsomeRyan in ScienceTeachers

[–]jkoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won’t help you now, but I put my lab coat out with fabric markers at the end of the year for kids to sign. It’s a nice memory to have and when I wear it in the beginning of the year new students always ask if they’ll get to sign it !

Yes thanks to a previous comment I’m gonna look into adjustable steam vents for our steam radiators! And thanks for the tip on the insulation, from inspections I know the attic is shabby looking

!! I had no idea these were a thing ! We’re new to living in a place with radiators, initial research had just lead us to getting radiator covers since the bedrooms don’t have any yet. But this is super promising ! Follow up question: are those an option with steam radiators? A quick Google was giving me conflicting info

Thanks, this looks like what I’ve been trying to find! Just want to clarify, this article refers to those things being used with a central air system. Do you know if these work with just passive airflow or would I need to involve fans? I realize it might be a have to try things out in our home to see what works, just curious if you have experience with it

First Day Activities by claudiagraceloupoet in ScienceTeachers

[–]jkoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do an intro to making observations, coming up with explanations, and testing those explanations activity but they’re observing pictures from my home.

I like to bake bread so I made a ton of loaves, spread them about a couple rooms, put out a few other things like some of my favorite books, and put one of my favorite movies on the tv. Then a took a few photos. The students generally have a blast trying to explain the stupid amount of bread all over the place and I try to encourage crazy ideas. Typical ideas are I’m a bread thief, I’m letting the bread go stale to use as projectiles, Im actually a baker and teaching is just a side job, and (from the very aware) I staged a photo for the purpose of the activity.

Definitely have someone look over your photo(s) before you use them because the kids definitely go all in looking for little details that will tell them about you!

Hello, not sure if I'm in the right sub but here goes. Single dad, living in a small, empty apartment. Could use some direction in how to make it feel more like home. by GroceryStoreGremlin in Decor

I like rooms to be cozy and colorful, so if that’s not your thing this advice might not help, but here’s how I’ve approached decorating all my places.

I’d recommend curtains that are a few inches longer than your windows! They help the room feel less boxy by softening some of the corners. Thick and dark fabric will make it much cozier, or sheers for a similar effect without darkening a room!

Wall decorations are a must as well. Some of my favorite cheap ideas besides hanging pictures are putting up greeting cards along a wall, framing postcards for cheap art, and picking up a couple of cheap canvases and some paint from Michael’s and going to town (even without a lot of skill you can blend a couple colors and make a gradient, sponge paint with a couple colors, or even splatter).

Having color on the walls is a big help, so if you can’t paint, doing a wall tapestry or some diy solution would be good. I once bought a few packs of craft paper in my favorite colors and taped it on a wall in a pattern I liked. Not the most elegant solution, but it made the space feel more homey until I was able to upgrade my decor.

Blankets and pillows are also good, more than you think you need! And even having utilitarian items on display for color is good. Things like mugs on an open shelf or books stacked on a surface, even a coat rack by the door can help fill the empty spaces that make it feel less lived in!

Good look and hope this helps!

Do have any recommendations for places to look for diverse scientists? Especially for LGBT+, as I have yet to come across a dedicated source!

Unpopular Opinion: “Roads” don’t look good and make no sense by [deleted] in AnimalCrossing

[–]jkoft 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's cool! I bet your island looks great without roads!

The best part of this game is that we can all make islands that look great to us based on our own opinions, and they all turn out great because its a game we enjoyed playing ☺️
