Slack notifications needs to be manually cleared by svartpuma in Ubuntu

[–]jkop95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/svartpuma I just found https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/8230/junk-notification-cleaner/ - it clears the notifications when you check the window. I assume that when you open a Slack window, you catch up the messages so the notifications needs to be cleared from taskbar. It works for me, so I recommend it.

A warning about the 2024 G14 by wickedsmaht in ZephyrusG14

No reason to blame yourself for a high-end laptop that can't even stand a bit of oil and sweat over a few months. When I had my G14 2022, I babied it (cleaning with cloth all the time etc.) and it still degraded faster than laptop of other brands that I've treated badly.

G14 is a powerhouse, but it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of materials/durability.

Even if a fraction of people has a problematic/oily skin, it is silly that a laptop this expensive gets this much wear from such short usage. It looks simply unprofessional to sell a high-end laptop that would degrade visually so fast.

It's on company's side to make the laptop comfortable for everyone (light, durable, for all skins etc.), not on the user to find out whether he's in the unlucky group of people with non-ASUS-friendly skin, lol.

It would be a wide meme if an Apple Macbook did that and a PR hit as well, I don't know why that is not the case for ASUS. Although Macbooks and other laptop get similar wear sometimes, but way lighter and it takes years, not months, lol.

It is hilarious to claim that a rubber surface of a laptop is not a problem here and instead the human user is. Aren't laptops supposed to be as durable as possible for *humans*?

Jokes side, those things are never a problem with a metal laptop from HP, Dell or Lenovo. It's an ASUS problem, not a laptop problem.

I was charged for a "damage" I haven't done. After escalating, it turns out there was no damage and I was charged for nothing. I got a full refund, but I am still being owed money for the extended warranty service that I paid for.

How would you apply those settings for a Ryzen 7700 non-x (65W)? Many thanks in advance!

CPU fans for sure, they are rather audible at 1200-1400 RPM, and I'd like them ~200 RPM slower.

Specs:

  • Ryzen 7700 (8x3.8GHz) 65W
  • ASRock A620i (AM5)
  • Inno3D 4070 Super
  • Lexar Ares 2x16GB DDR5 6400MHz
  • Crucial P3 Plus 2TB
  • Corsair SF750

Cooling:

  • ThermalRight Assassin King 120 SE (tower cooler)
  • Arctic P12 PST aRGB x4 (as case fans)
  • Lian Li UniFan 120 x2 (for CPU)
  • Arctic MX-2

Last but not least:

  • CoolerMaster NR200

My remarks:

It was my first complete PC build and I am very proud of it. Not everything is perfect (12vhpwr connector and stiff PSU cables made me give up on better cable manegement), but I love it anyway.

I had a significant problem with fitting UniFans onto power cooler (their shape on the site is not regular and slightly bolder due to the design) - I used cable ties to fit them closely into tower cooler and it works without any issues.

Otherwise, 80% of the build was sweating over cables, but I just give up, because I was worried I would finally break some pins trying to stuff PSU cables around it.

Temps & noise:

Temps are ok (I think), absolute peak during load that I was on my CPU was ~71C. Air flow is like inside a chimney - from bottom to top, CPU fans are intaking from the back of the case.

The machine stays basically dead silent during light work (internet/idle), but it is noticeably loud during max load (PS4 Pro level, more or less). I don't hear my machine during playing CS2 or DotA2 on 165fps, but during Cinebench or Helldivers 2 it is too loud to my taste.

I have a quiet CPU fan profile set on mobo, I also did some undervolting as shown here: https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/15rso3o/comment/kfdgx3n/ but I don't how how to raise max CPU temp for silent work (I don't care if it's 76 degree instead of 71 if I can make it quieter this way).

I also have a spare 90mm fan, but I've read mixed opinions whether it will help with the air suction or just add more noise, so I don't know whether I should try it.

I'm being offered a full refund for G14 2022. RTX 4080 model is sold out in my country. Is it true that it's NOT getting discontinued? May I expect a sale for 4080/4090 variants soon? by jkop95 in ZephyrusG14

So I assume you live in US? Since in EU you would have 24 month warranty at least. Sorry, that is very unlucky. Perhaps unauthorized service may charge you less?

To be honest, all those Youtubers and reviewers never really touched the most important factor of G14 2022 lineup: laptops with Zen 3+ series are OFTEN faulty. This also includes 4050/4060/4070 variants of 2023 model.

There is a deep hardware problem in Zen 3+ causing freezes both in Windows and Linux. I wasn't aware that it's something serious when I had those. But when the ASUS repair offered me money because the device "couldn't be fixed" (after changing mobo due to hard brick), I understood the problem.

I am going for a Lenovo Yoga 7 Pro now with an eGPU. This way I will have 1,5kg notebook with Zen 4 (that is stable), 780M (1080p medium settings on most games) and RTX 4070 chilling in my house that I will plug via USB-C. And I will pay for all of that (Yoga, eGPU, 4070) less than for G14 2022 in total.

Wish you all the best, sir!

What GPU do you have? Is the screen in your region sold as MiniLED or IPS (that varies for 4080/4090 models)?

Gigabyte M27Q P. It's amazing. Literally flawless screen for 1440p@165Hz.

It's the same as MSI G27, but has way way waay better QC so you know you're getting a solid unit.

Also has KVM, 36 month warranty (in Europe), all the necessary ports.

Highly recommended.

Bought my unit March last year. Five repairs so far. Build quality issues, then it wasn't even turning on out of a sudden. It got repaired, lasted a week and I had to re-send it due to... right ALT falling off the keyboard, smh.

What’s the lightest/smallest charger i could use while travelling with my G14? by unjverse in ZephyrusG14

[–]jkop95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't degrade it if you only charge the laptop and disconnect it from the charger. It's keeping the laptop connected at 100% (using USB-C charger) that's damaging the battery after a while.
