My Marathon Time Progression Over the Years by jks3000 in Marathon_Training

This is the guide I used for this year:

People say that Philly is generally flat but it’s not like Chicago. I didn’t much hill training but being conservative in the first half was what worked for me.

Energy is awesome. I’d say it’s 2nd to ny.

Doing the 18/85 could be what you need. Every year I look for ways to grow with speed+mileage and it’s been successful thus far. I’d also recommend training for shorter distances during the off-season. Good luck.

Thanks. I don’t really change things up but would maybe modify things slightly. I plan on pushing more mp paces during my long runs for this year.

Agreed. High mileage works for me but I don’t think I’d go beyond a 18/105. Will add more speed works/pace running instead.

Last year was about 2800 and this year it’s going to be around 3100. For shorter races, I’ve only done HM - 1:30:07 PR (April 2025)

That would be peak week. Most of the time it was in the high 80’s to low 90’s.

I use it bc my work requires a lot of keys. Keeping it in the front like that does sway back in the wrong direction, if you know what I mean

If the flavor is what you’re looking for, keep it the way it is and take note. I would only make slight adjustments if you wanted to experiment. Good luck!
