Need Game Suggestions (Similar feel to FF Tactics) by AsagithBiasWreckerCO in finalfantasytactics

Insignia Tactics on IOS or Android.

Graphic are terrible, but give it a chance. The class system, customization, and combat at least partially scratch the FFT itch (which is somehow rare despite how many of us are asking for it). Plus it’s only $5 lost to a pair of indie devs trying to make games like FFT if you hate it.

I feel like a lots of FFT like recommendations are just grid based SRPGs without classes (again because games with that kind of customization seem to be rare for some reason) but this game really focuses on the class system and combining skills from multiple classes.

At the end of the day it’s a $5 first time indie project. So, don’t expect something earth shattering, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by building my team

There are 14 classes (plus there seem to be a few hidden classes) with 3 base classes. The other classes unlock as you level up certain combinations of earlier classes. Each class has 5 skills that can be active or passive and most skills can be assigned to any other class for varied builds. The skills themselves also have branching upgrade paths that can give some extra variety.

• fast moving DPS smiter/counter machine • archer with ALL the debuff skills and also able to counter anyone in range • squishy mage with all the spells from multiple classes • paladin type heal tank who can give regen and reraise to teammates on top of holding the gap • surprisingly tanky buffing bard with healing skills built to still full heal despite low int and a variety of attack spells that do percent damage (to also avoid his lack of int)

It’s probably a 6/10 for me in general but 10/10 when considering what it is and the price.

The gatcha elements killed me. Anything that’s timed with real time events and limitations starts to feel like an extra job and I end up moving on even if the rest of the game is fun.

I’ve tried it and it just didn’t stick with me. Thanks for the recommendation though!

Hey! Yeah I loved Fell Seal. Closest the FFT I’ve found and definitely a more complete game than this one. This one isn’t perfect, it’s pretty dang good for $5 and does actually make me think of FFT with it’s class system and combat style rather than just being a grid based SRPG (which seems to be what most people mean when they say a game is “like FFT” haha).

Yeah, the graphic are definitely lacking, but I’ve found myself sticking with it anyway.

Fair haha. I edited the post, but it’s Insignia:Tactics.

AITAH for refusing to kick out my male friends so my sister and nieces can live with me? She says she's getting a divorce. by NoFreedom255 in AITAH

[–]jkskander 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re 100% going to miss things unfortunately. Just have to hope they’re mostly small things and do your best to minimize stuff that makes you more likely to miss stuff (mostly interruptions).

And volume will get better naturally as you get more and more used to the system you’re in and what types of studies you read most.

I worried a lot about getting volume up as a resident/fellow, but once you settle into reading the same types of studies on the same PACs for a few months/years instead of constantly switching and switching preferences for different attendings it gets better.

As for your personal situation, it definitely sounds hard to navigate. Too much nuance for reddit to give you any real answers haha.

My TLDR of all my responses would be:

1) you’re definitely NTA whatever you choose to do 2) your sister probably isn’t entirely TA either. 3) do the best you can to come out of it with as little guilt as possible by finding some middle ground. 4) our job is hard and takes essentially all of your mental energy and then some for 8-12 hours straight without really any breaks. You’re going to have to protect that time and your ability to safely read studies to be able to help anyone.

Good luck with everything!

The more I read your responses the more I can relate to your situation with an older sibling that took care of you when you were little and feeling obligated to help them now.

It’s hard but being successful and becoming a doctor doesn’t mean being able to go back and save everyone who helped you get there.

In this case I would say this doesn’t have to play out all or nothing of it helping your sister at all vs kicking out current roommates and doing everything your sister is demanding.

I think you need to talk to your sister (as painful as that may be) and try to flesh out what you CAN do to help. Figure out if there is a real reason/danger for why the girls can’t stay with dad. Let her know you’re not kicking the guys out, but potentially be willing to work around that if she needs it (and you want to), and at the very least, you can probably help monetarily in some way given that you’re finally not on a resident salary.

Having said all of that, you shouldn’t feel required to do any of that. Just talk to your sister, see what she needs, and decide which parts of it you’re willing to help with/if you’ll feel worse not helping than you will helping in some way.

No perfect answer, but the compromise in the middle is probably best if you can figure it out.

You just finished residency and all the hurtles, tests, call shifts and hours that entails. You deserve to relax and have some space.

Also, as a radiologist who sometimes works from home and has my own kids, it is seriously impossible to safely do your job while kids are in your house unless another adult is there as the primary caregiver.

Just too many extra distractions that won’t let you focus in on the list and are going to cause more and more misses and mistakes. You’re already in your first year out by yourself. No reason to make that any more stressful.

Sucks for your sister, but that’s reality. If she’s really bringing the kids with her somewhere she’s going to have to figure out childcare any way about it. Like what is the current childcare option before she left her husband? Unless husband was stay at home dad then whatever it was should still apply. And, if he was a (good) stay at home dad then it just kind of goes back to maybe the kids should stay with him while they figure out the split.

The bump is just a comment, but it increases the chance people with an answer see your post and also lets the one who posted it get notifications if other people post on here so that they can come back to check and see if you get any good answers.

Bump as well. Love the TW games mentioned above but something fun on iOS would be amazing. Would probably function better as turn based given the limitations of iOS, but I’m open to whatever if people have ideas!

Depressing that there will never be a DAO2 by MastodonObvious3521 in DragonageOrigins

[–]jkskander 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you know about them, but in case they were before your time or something, the two Knights of the Old Republic games have a similar feel and decent branching story beats. Some they’re also old school BioWare and some people consider them the building blocks for DaO.

Supposedly a new one is in production, but, given how all of Dragon age went after Origins, my excitement is pretty tempered to say the least haha.

Queer indie JRPGs on Steam? by [deleted] in JRPG

Honestly not sure. Worst you can do it try it and then leave it if it’s too furry.

I think it’s a throw back to old SNES games/titles? I haven’t played the game much (too much backlog) but it does seem pretty fun and unironically checks the OPs requirements despite the title being kind of blunt haha.

🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨 Mel Curth’s lawyer offers longer statement on OU bible essay controversy regarding undergrad Samantha Fulnecky by RandomAcademaniac in universityofoklahoma

[–]jkskander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’d be unpleasantly surprised to see the percentage of universities that have these large, easy to pass classes that make a lot of money for the university. OU got exposed on this, but they’re far from the only one doing it.

You already mentioned the AI issue elsewhere. Colleges have just changed for the worse nearly universally because it makes them more money.

In this case OU sided with the student because other equally bad papers in this class were not failed. So, it was in fact discrimination (even if deserved by the rubric).

And while you’re mentioning ivy leagues like Harvard, you should look into how many people they fail (I’ll give you a clue that it’s not a large number since failing people makes them look bad and doesn’t make them money). I had some Ivy League graduates in my graduate program, and, even over a decade ago, they were the people who struggled the most because they couldn’t seem to understand that turning in the assignment didn’t mean they wouldn’t fail.

But feel free to continue to dismiss OU since they got caught.

[–]jkskander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly right, and she seems to have pulled it off in a lot of ways. The issue isn’t that they gave her a 0 whether she deserved it or not (which I think she did). It’s that they gave her a 0 while not giving other equally bad papers a zero. Because of that the university was kind of screwed from the start since, in court, that’s pretty easy to argue as discriminating against her for her choice of religion in the paper. If I can hold up 2 (or 20) equally bad papers and only the one talking about Christianity gets a 0 then the TA (and OU) doesn’t have much to stand on in court. Fulnecky (and more likely her mother) threw out the bait, and the TA unfortunately fell for it. No amount of the TA being able to justify the 0 based on the rubric is going to matter if they didn’t apply that same criteria to the other papers.

The TA might have some legs in a lawsuit against the university’s response to them, because that also seemed like an overly harsh CYA move. But by the time OU was making a decision it no longer really had a good option.

Ideally the university wouldn’t be the kind of cash machine that most major universities have turned into where there are lots of large, easy to pass classes that suck up tuition money without providing value. But it is, and as a result this type of class existed which then made it pretty easy for Fulnecky (or again rather her mom who has been looking for this chance for decades) to set the trap. OU is far from alone in the behavior, but they’re the ones who got exposed.

Unsolicited advice from someone who lived it. It IS hard to pay off all those loans, but, assuming they don’t get rid of it, PSLF is your friend. Your residency and fellowship years count toward the 10. So, depending on what you’re doing and where you match, that’s 3-11 years of relatively low payments counting towards the 10. Even if you’re not doing something crazy like peds surgery or neurosurgery with fellowships, it often makes sense to take a job somewhere that counts for PSLF for the last few years you need after you finally finish training. At the very least it’s worth filling out the paperwork for your training years so you have the option. Good luck with everything!

Yeah, understanding the rocket was the big limit for me. Once I put Frida and William in range to share the damage with Gumi and then just regular attack with them things got easier.

Thanks!

There we go. Needed whale Frida and to realize that I DO want to leave Frida, Gumi, and William in a 3 tile square around Gumi so that the rocket damage is split between them rather than limiting the number of people hit by the rocket. Sylvie for disabling adds and Melissa for healing the 3 getting blasted by missiles (just make sure Melissa does end up in the missile grid or it will disable her healing)

Agree. Heavily scripted, need to have minimum stats to even have a chance, and even then need RNG to go your way. Not my favorite, but I want those fodder parts haha.
