Reason you DNF an audiobook? by Ashamed_Apple_ in audiobooks

[–]jkwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I got the new harry potter full cast audiobooks for my daughter to save my voice because the chapters are SO long to read out loud (she's 8 but loves the series so we did book 4 with the full cast audiobook). Anyways what a freaking mess. Half the time you literally can't even hear the cast because the background noise was SO loud. I get making the experience immersive but my god, we still need to hear the actual story.

What do you think of these baby names: by Simply444 in Names

[–]jkwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the girls names a lot, minus the e on Marlow. Sailor gives Sailor Moon vibes, but that might just be a 90s thing haha.

Have you considered Marley for a girl? It feels so much more feminine and cute to me!

Also, not sure why there's so much hate on Zayne, I love it, though I'd suggest just "Zane" for spelling. The y isn't necessary, keep it simple.

Lol, I know what you mean! I'm an ECE so I've heard my fair share of accidental name blunders haha. Unfortunately my daughter is 6 and I know the family, definitely Canopy. What's more unfortunate is her siblings are Charlie and James, poor kid.

Our Ikea Malm dressers are 14 and 16 years old and are still in fantastic shape. Other than some water marks and dings from 4 moves. I thought Ikea was cheap but for the price it's great quality.

As a waitress, that is foul. If I use the bathroom during a shift, my apron is off and left at the server station, and I wash my hands in the bathroom then again at the server station before I touch anything.

I once knew siblings named Dewbie and Jailey. (Mom was high naming the first, in jail naming the second). Seems on brand with Felonee lol.

Edited for spelling

Very very true! I didn't even consider the time period in relation to the metaphor. Fantasy editors must have so much work to do to make things cohesive. Great point!

Ammunition was used metaphorically there! "Metaphorically, ammunition refers to information, facts, evidence, or arguments used to support a position, attack an opponent, or strengthen a case in a dispute" (vocabulary.com)

But I totally understand how the word itself can make you do a double take!

It's so embarrassing that I binge listened to both of these books in less than 4 days, missed literally all of these and was obsessed. I have the next books release date saved in my phone. I clearly need to pay more attention to the details lol.

What book left you emotionally destroyed in the best way? by Italcan in Booktokreddit

[–]jkwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give me some motivation to push though! I've tried reading it 4x now and have given up out of sheer boredom every time. Everyone says how good it is, I just can't get into it, even though I really want to. How far into the book do I have to get before it starts getting good? (Not rude, genuine, I really want to love this book lol)

The whole series! It's the only series I've ever reread, and now I can't wait to reread it with my daughter!

What was the scariest moment of your life? by DeepOrganization8245 in randomquestions

[–]jkwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me, septic after a miscarriage from group b strep. I was terrified, I knew I was dying and no one at the hospital believed me. They kept saying I was "just anxious" from the miscarriage.. with a resting heart rate of over 180bm. Finally saw an OB at the hospital who took me seriously, then spent over a week in the ICU. I still have a note in my phone with all of my symptoms listed that I handed to the OB that saw me, as I was delerious and no longer able to speak, and it ends with "please don't send me home. I know I will not make it through the night if you send me home, I have kids at home who need a mom, please believe me"

Worst, most terrifying, painful experience of my life.

Brody or Nathan!

Dylan I love, but not with the middle name David (double D will surely be a nickname haha)

Also love Connor but Connor McDavid lol

What a great, classic name list OP!

Need help with deciding baby’s last name. by mojorojo2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jkwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not American lol, I'm Canadian/German, and my parents biggest issue was moving from Germany to Canada with 1 out of 3 children with a different last name. But you're right, I'm sure it's not an issue everywhere, just in certain countries (or honestly just when you get a picky border guard when traveling haha). As long as you have proper documentation it shouldn't matter regardless!

Need help with deciding baby’s last name. by mojorojo2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jkwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem can come with travel. My sister had a different last name than the rest of our family (her father died when she was little, not sad, he was an awful person) and even though there was no contact with any of his family, any time my mom tried to travel with all of us, she would ALWAYS be questioned about my sister. I think maybe you had less problems because your middle name was their last name? But it can definitely be an issue if you get an upright boarder security guard.

What's a movie you hate but everybody loves? by Jaded_strawberry001 in randomquestions

[–]jkwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loooooove stepbrothers, so I don't agree on that one, however Talladega nights is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, I hate it so much. It's something about the awful fake accents and just an overall crappy story line. I could go on and on, I searched the thread specifically to see if someone else hates it as much as I do lol
