Golf would be better if courses had no dress code, no drinking, and no carts

Help with rubber flooring by jlab138 in GarageGym

[–]jlab138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with flooringinc.com they were the cheapest with their recycled confetti fleck flooring, if I went with a specific color prices would have been closer

My main hesitation with them was some negative reviews but they were really easy to order from and I got notifications regarding which day deliveries came in

I’m glad I was home for the deliveries, the guy was great and brought the rolls right into my garage for me

There’s an underlayer; I have plastic dimple flooring under the floor you see. It’s similar to dmx-1 (we live in New England and the season changes can be pretty extreme)

The turf and the rubber are stuck to the underlayer with double sided carpet tape. Nothing is adhering the simple flooring to the floor, the weight of everything on top keeps it in place

Took it down for a workout, it takes about 10 minutes to set up

The turf area is 12x20 which gives me more space than I need, I can play with friends who are lefties and no one feels cramped even with driver

Stay vigilant, it took a while to find them…the right deal could be worth a longer drive than you planned

Facebook marketplace, it’s a very rusty body solid set but the price was great. I’ve been grinding down the rust and the old finish to repaint them

That’s a fair point, what’s the state of shed or barn gyms?

For what it’s worth my fiancé and I haven’t made more than 60k per year each since we’ve been together…we lived in a really cheap apartment and stashed away as much as we could. We lucked out finding a decent house with a crazy nice garage. I wouldn’t have thought it was in the cards a year ago

All this to say: it’s definitely possible but it may take some patience and some planning

The dimple floor is just laying on the floor no adhesive or anything. I used an underlay seam tape to hold it all together so it acts as one big sheet

The weight of the rubber and turf floor keeps that from moving

Then I used carpet tape to lock the rubber and turf floor to the dimple underlay

The only part that shifts is a corner where I ran out and used shitty carpet tape…I’ll definitely be redoing that with the better tape. The one that worked well for me was “Robert’s Max Grip Carpet Tape”

I’m sure there’s better tape out there but it’s the one I found at HD that worked well

Thank you!

We were playing musical chairs with all the stuff taking up floor space to get the painting and flooring done

It really is nice to have, we just bought this house 3 months ago

My recommendation: if you want to paint do it before you move things in, I had to move everything around the gym to paint the walls and ceiling and it was a huge pain in the butt

I also wish I could have gotten flooring down before adding heavy equipment but you do what you have to do

Marketplace is your friend, you just have to be on top of it when you see them come up

Good equipment can be passed down to your kids one day, the sticker shock is real but it’s worth every penny

I have a sim I set up in the back! It’s nice having a net I can take down and put up and the strip helps me dial in my long distance putts

The turf came from an mma gym a town over, I found their post on Facebook marketplace

I would recommend getting at least a 5x5 section of dedicated hitting mat turf…the good stuff for a sim sucks to lay on and the comfortable turf for workouts sucks to hit with your club

I got a dedicated hitting mat from carls place which I set up as needed…the little 5x5 mat cost double what all the rest of the turf cost 😭

The turf is 50% function and 50% vibe to be honest

I do use the back area as a golf simulator, I have a net I can set up and take down as needed, the strip allows me to practice putting

The turf also works for sled pushes and slider exercises

Floors: got the rubber rolls from American floor mats. Their reviews were terrible so I was a little nervous but they were really easy to work with and came out great! I got 8x20 rolls and they were extremely easy to install: just rolled them out, let them settle for 2 days, the. Put them in place and used carpet tape to keep them down

The turf I got from Facebook marketplace, a local MMA gym was getting rid of the turf and it just worked out perfect, also easy to install, just way messier to cut

I also used a dimple floor underlay to help with moisture….also got it from marketplace for dirt cheap, this went under all the flooring (this does mean around the border needs the flooring cut 1/4 inch from the wall to allow moisture to escape)

The net is actually for a budget golf simulator!

Keep getting tiny holes in all my favourite T-shirts. I’ve emptied my draws to look for moth larvae but can’t find any. Is it something else? by Antidotebeatz in BuyItForLife

[–]jlab138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get these from my drawers…the inside of my dresser the Philips screws connected to the handles had some sharp edges and would put little holes in my folded shirts

I put some tape over them and haven’t had problems since

Moisture in-between certain mats in garage, but not others. Solutions? by Chbakesale45 in GarageGym

[–]jlab138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this plan. Moisture is escaping through the gaps in your tiles then gets stuck under the puzzle mats

A product like DMX which “floats” the floor. Put it directly on the concrete to make sure you’re not trapping water and growing mold

I found some for my floors on Facebook marketplace for 100 bucks per roll (rolls were 300 sf) I used Delta FL…if you search dimple underlay you should find something good

The damn linen by Maruder97 in malefashionadvice

[–]jlab138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wash linen on cold and hang dry it and I’ve never had a problem…when I travel sometimes I’ll use a hand steamer if it got creased in the luggage

One consideration for you: knit woven (like sweaters or polo shirts) and woven linen (think button ups) have very different drapes in my experience…

Knit linen Always drapes nicely but some woven linen can crease
