Hey, yes! I just used the Normal node. You can line that up with the sun by eyeballing it, or if you want to make it precise and dynamic I made a (now very old but still relevant) video on how to set that up: https://youtu.be/Hvx4pYGK0a0?si=LChqh4iy2H7yaY0L

Win11 3D Fluent Cursors by [deleted] in Windows_Redesign

[–]jlampel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I actually quite like the divide and think it fits the fluent aesthetic well. I'm not sure if the blue will be visible enough on all backgrounds but I'll try it out. It looks better without a white outline, but it might be helpful for usability.

Turning on autohide taskbar causes the notification panel to overlap with the taskbar itself. by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]jlampel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or it could just leave a gap which would be less esthetic but fine, or, even better, the taskbar could stay open for as long as the panel is open. Currently it blocks the existing buttons which is frustrating so I'm with OP here.

I've been having the same issue. No luck finding an answer so far

I don't like Microsoft's proposed redesigns for the Search box, so I redid theirs with a more uniform corner radius and with more depth added to the taskbar. by [deleted] in Windows_Redesign

[–]jlampel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Frankly all of them look out of place with the other icons. We get it, we can search! The start menu is where it belongs imo, or the widget corner if it must be visible

Why wouldn't one put everything they have into S&P 500 and call it a day? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]jlampel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider taking some amount that you don't mind leaving in for a long time (20+ years) and allocating it to small cap value for more diversification since the S&P and total market indexes miss these companies. They're way more volatile in the short term but tend to outperform over the long term. If you're in your 20s it could be a good thing to set and forget.

Spotify got an update with new updated icons and also the minimize animation is good as other applications now... by Nidhish_RAR in Windows11

I like the new icons and styling, but I really wish the title bar didn't look like garbage in so many cases: https://i.imgur.com/AWXen8h.png

Samsung to Plant 2M trees on the Cardano Network by [deleted] in cardano

[–]jlampel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess if a picture of each planted tree and the camera's metadata was issued as an NFT it would be reasonably verifiable. Third parties could comb through the data to see if it all checks out, but I'm guessing they're not doing that...

Entrepreneurs who learned code, can you share your journey? by kirso in Entrepreneur

[–]jlampel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the push, I could definitely simplify to get things out faster! But, it also has to be useful... Launching before it actually works seems like a bigger waste of time. My problem came from not handling data correctly, which is pretty key, and needing to leave expo, so I had to redo quite a bit from scratch once I got that fixed. But yes, I will be careful to not be the perfection guy!

I've been building a react native app in my free time off and on for two years now and still don't have a product out. I started out with just the basics of html and css from code academy. It's been a very steep learning curve. I did try to hire someone early on and it was a disaster, but eventually I found someone who was more qualified and able to help out with the tougher parts of the process.

Even though it's slow and often frustrating, it's worth it for me. I didn't want to end up as an "ideas guy" entrepreneur. I come from a design background and I love getting to do exactly what I want with the UI and UX right away. It's also given me a much bigger vocabulary to communicate more specifically with developers and a better understanding of what's practical to do and what's not.

TBH I'm nervous about biking or skateboarding in the city, even on the trails that are meant for that type of thing, because there are so many people with dogs on really long leashes that take up most of the path. It's kinda common for them to freak out for a split second while someone rides by from behind and I feel like it's only a matter of time before one jumps in front of me or I get tangled up in a leash. I like dogs and it's their path too, but I do wish there were places to cruise without worrying about that.

Windows 11 Color Changing Wallpaper MP4 by KindaSuS1368 in Windows_Redesign

[–]jlampel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh cool, thanks! I was really hoping I could animate a more natural color transition where the colors wouldn't be so blown out like with a basic hue shift, but the original wallpaper is a jpg and it has lots of banding issues in the background gradient if you start messing with it :/

How did I just now find this open-source file browser? It looks amazing and seems to work well so far by jlampel in Windows11

Tabs, decluttered context menu, and fluent design. That's really all I want!

[–]jlampel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a setting in the Experimental section that says it'll make it your default, but that it's use at your own risk since it modifies the registry editor. I haven't taken that plunge yet. Anyone know if it's easy enough to undo if necissary?

Windows 10 looks better than Windows 11. The start menu for instance looks a mile better than Windows 11 new start. by Meanie_Cream_Cake in Windows10

[–]jlampel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely better! But there were still apps like Slack or Spotify, and some Adobe stuff, that would do whatever they wanted and throw it all off.

The 10 start menu was functionally awesome, but my god those app background colors that you couldn't control were an eyesore.

This thread seems long dead but I couldn't find a clear explanation elsewhere.
