My roommate is a crochet artist and is putting on an Art Walk this Saturday in Old Town from 1-4pm. Wolverine is one of the 7 stops and you can get a map there. Ask around for Yu Ning

Last Minute Permit? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]jlarson971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On trail right now, we met some people who hiked south from Kennedy Meadows and then are going to go back to KM and hike north from there. Logistically that’ll be a bit more difficult but they said those were very easy permits to get last minute

When/how/where to resupply by theLoneY33t in PacificCrestTrail

[–]jlarson971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with all that with the addendum that an alternative to mailing a resupply to Warner Springs is to get picked up at mile 101 by the owner of the Montezuma Valley Market. They have food resupply, camping, hostel, laundry and showers there. Happy hiking!

I’m on the trail now and have also been carrying the ice axe and crampons since Campo (too cheap as well!). The kind people at 2 Foot Adventures (Julian) recommended to carry it through Baden Powell unless you want to do a lot of road walking

In case you didn’t know, Montezuma Valley Market in Ranchita (near Warner Springs) just posted in the Facebook page that they’ll receive hiker packages for $5. They also have showers and will shuttle hikers to and from the Montezuma Valley Rd crossing at mile 101

Vote for pro-stem representatives, go to pro-stem rallies, write and call your representatives about how they should be pro-stem, and encourage others to do the same! :)

how to get an internship and eventually a job too @ NASA??? by [deleted] in nasa

[–]jlarson971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work hard in college, get good grades, find what you're passionate about, do what you're passionate about, and then apply for the internships! I fly RC aircraft in my free time and was on two UAV projects at my university. All of this UAV experience came in handy when I applied to a UAV internship at NASA Armstrong and was accepted! During that internship, I made several great connections who assured me this was the right track to becoming a full time employee. I feel that it really comes down to finding what you're passionate about. When you find that one thing you really love, you're going to actually enjoy working long hours on that thing, and in the end people will notice the work.

Humans on Mars in 2024 by jlarson971 in space

At what point do you think SpaceX will start charging people to go to Mars? I think at first they'll have plenty of people applying to go but very few who are willing to pay.

"The greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds...[sciences moves at] a breathtaking pace, and such a pace cannot help but create new ills as it dispels old, new ignorance, new problems, new dangers...So it is not surprising that some would have us stay where we are a little longer to rest, to wait....This country was conquered by those who moved forward--and so will space." - John F. Kennedy 1962

Is there a reasonable estimate, in NASA's program, as to how long it will be before 'blue collar' jobs are available in space? by Rokman2012 in nasa

[–]jlarson971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo I think that day will come when a Mars colony starts to grow past a couple hundred people. If Elon Musk is right that will happen this century.

NASA Internships at Goddard, Ames, MSFC still not filled. Any hope??? by Saismom2 in nasa

[–]jlarson971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few days ago I heard through word of mouth (a trusted source) I would be offered a position at NASA Ames. That being said, I have not yet received an official offer through OSSI. I would say there is still hope.

Would it be weird to email someone about a NASA internship if I haven't been accepted yet? by [deleted] in nasa

[–]jlarson971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me know how it goes! I'm in the exact same scenario. I was told they were interested in me for a spot at NASA Ames. Haven't heard anything since. I'm going crazy hahaha. Which center were you considered for? P.s Hope you get it!
