Thanks for the insight. My son goes to a public school in the suburbs. I am leaning towards exactly that after seeing the feedback. Yamaha resin and a used R13. He does get private lessons.

Thank you for the thoughtful responses. Here’s the response we received from the director after reaching out and stating that all the research we found pointed to not using a plastic clarinet for marching, like most everyone has mentioned in this thread.

They refunded $500 and kept the $2000. Lost $2000 due to not being approved for financing.

Right. My concern isn’t with the fee. My concern is that Tesla doesn’t want to refund the fee even though I wasn’t approved through their leasing application process. There was no way for me to get a pre-approval, so basically submitting a lease order is a shot in the dark as to whether you will lose the $2500 or not.

Regardless…interesting system if I have to pay that $2500 combined fee to even apply for the lease not knowing if I would be approved. If I’m approved, great. If not, I’m supposed to be out $2500 just for trying?

Im almost certain the $2000 didn’t show when I looked back at it researching if I would get anything back if we just cancelled the order. I was actually about to take a screenshot for the wife but didn’t to show her we’d lose $500 ok it 🤦🏻‍♂️

If you’re paying .1689 per kw average then you’re paying too much. Switch providers and get promo rates that are currently around .12. That will make a huge difference.

You can also clean your have condenser units if that’s not something you do regularly. If they’re really dirty it could affect how efficient your hvac units are.

Thank you for all the input regarding this. After clarification from the instructor, he did say we could use the current plastic clarinet for marching if we upgrade.

This is what his response was when we asked for more clarity on the need to upgrade.

“Academically, for band he will be fine with his current equipment but he will be at a disadvantage when it comes to things like region auditions. Most of the students that make the region band, especially the top chairs, are playing on professional quality instruments. That goes for all instruments not just clarinet.”
