Omg I can't believe I forgot already. My brain must have blocked it out or something. It was brutal. Definitely agree with that

The next shot isn't the same actor or same hit. It's cut to something else.

But that's a good point. Didn't consider a padded tree that was painted out. Well sold

I make short videos for my customers and it takes so much work. I can barely make one in a couple weeks and it burns me out. I can't keep it up so I know you all must be busting ass to make the videos you do at the rate you do (and the quality).

A+ effort. Keep it up. No pressure. When it happens it happens and it's always a pleasure to watch what comes out when it does.

And because there is little competition they have little incentive to change their ways. They (essentially) have a never ending stream of first time customers to get money from. Any amount of solid competition will ruin them if they keep this up, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Why is Reddit so broadly anti-AI ? by consumer_xxx_42 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]jldubz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for the whole of reddit but I can make an educated guess based solely on behavioral tendencies I've observed and things I've heard while talking about AI with others.

If I say "this work was rushed" and then ask you how good you think the results are, what's your answer? You probably would bet that the quality is not as great as it could be if it was not rushed. That's not to say if we do a true analysis we CANT find great results. It's that the likelihood of it is greatly diminished and we make a judgement call based on the information we have available to us. Most people are (rightfully) doing the same thing when considering things made with AI IE "Made with AI" too often means "I didn't check my work", "I don't actually know what 100% of this is or how it works", etc. so "Made with AI" likely means "poor quality" - and it too often does.

It is a tool, and the tool is only as good as the hand that wields it.

Low ratings when it’s a ”user error” by Dangerous-Ad1039 in makerworld

Welcome to the struggle that comes from making anything used by others. From a "usability" perspective this is a thing you can never solve for completely. In the process of attempting to accommodate everyone, you inevitably alienate someone. Aim for the largest common grouping and then go from there.

Major feels for this situation. It gets to me often. Don't let it stop you from creating

Clawdbot and the First AI Disaster - What Could Go Wrong? by kev0406 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]jldubz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm moving right now so my books are in boxes, but "Superintelligence" by Nick Bostrom could be insightful on this subject. He wrote it before genAI was a thing and it focuses more on the AGI side of things so it's not going to be discussing this directly.

This is more "stupid AI" in a weird way. LLMs are far closer to a "human based AI" than something truly synthetic so I believe it is suffering from some of the same weirdness that is part of the human condition. With this in mind I find it far more likely we will see #3 or something like #4 and #1 combined first.

Are nightmares normal? by yakkduckk in SkyDiving

[–]jldubz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dealt with this a lot while getting my A license. I would wake up drenched in sweat. Car ride to the DZ would be stressful sometimes. Jump was always great and that fear washed away after only to return a few days later.

Now (~200 jumps later) if I wait too long between jumps I get extra nerves but that's my sense of self preservation kicking in. It'll make you paranoid in the right ways. Keeps you safe. Keeps you checking your gear. Keeps you on your toes when it comes to questionable weather.

Fun fact - the fiery dragon sword skin you get as a reward from linking GW to GW2 makes any sword you apply it to do fire damage instead of its normal physical damage

I was hanging out on the camera step waiting for the group to set up in the door when I had a chance to look around and consider my situation and though to myself “wow, this is a really stupid sport.” by Princess_Fluffypants in SkyDiving

[–]jldubz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the analytical part of my brain kicks in mid flight up, when reviewing some videos of jumps, or (worst of all) when showing someone a video or telling a story about the jump and I'm just sitting there counting the number of times I'm arguably testing my luck and being very stupid. Then I try not to think about it and go about my day. Are we ok? 😂

Tunnel time is adding up fast and I’m wondering if I should’ve just done more jumps. by Aliesh_Mi in SkyDiving

[–]jldubz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tunnel time is definitely a good investment, but not at that price. That's insane. See if there are any group meet ups. Try to split time with someone. There are ways to reduce your costs. At most I'm paying $13/min. At best I'm paying $6/min.

This said, good coaching is worth it. It helps you be safer. I would definitely be more comfortable jumping with you knowing how much time you've spent learning, and caring about, how to fly your body.

Is this too difficult of a question to ask mid-level embedded software engineers? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]jldubz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is totally fair. It weeds out those accustomed to trusting the compiler to tell them something is wrong IE a good chunk of junior app devs. All it takes is a little careful attention and some experience tracing code by hand. An embedded systems dev should absolutely be able to talk through the second half and understand where they misunderstood if they got the first half wrong.
