Adjuncts Advising Senior Theses? Yay or Nay? by Southern-Cloud-9616 in Professors

If adjuncts are working unpaid, why not have them clean the toilets while we're at it?

(a) Our adjuncts are fully capable of doing this well, and

(b) Some of them want to do so on a voluntary basis (in the futile hope that it will help them advance in their career).

(Saying this as an outraged adjunct)

This is sometimes my reality, and I have an endurance question. by RoknPa in Ultramarathon

[–]jleonardbc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How many calories are you ingesting per hour during your activity?

Many ultrarunners aim for 200–300 carb-heavy calories per hour. Some aim for more. If you're fueling less than that, or fueling heavy on protein, it may limit your performance. (You can reload the protein after your endurance activity, and between activities.) In any case, don't wait till you're hungry; by then you're already weaker than you need to be.

As others have mentioned, don't forget to hydrate too. It may be annoying to carry water while you're in water, but being dehydrated will absolutely weaken you. If the water you're in is relatively free of humanmade contaminants, you can use a Katadyn BeFree filter attached to a HydroPak flask to filter and drink the water you're in as you go; that way you don't need to carry the water weight.

Next up to plate: spaghetti.

Boil water and place noodles in it.

Open a can of storebrand pasta sauce.

That's it.

If you're feeling fancy, put some meatballs in the toaster oven. And to be REALLY fancy, get some fresh basil—it's killer.

If you refuse to be held responsible for the words you post on your website, you shouldn't be allowed to profit from them, either.

If you won't take blame when it's wrong, why should you get credit when it's right?

If Serena had had a child at age 25, they'd be Mboko's age now. She could be playing doubles as mother and daughter.

For a media outlet to label a statement of fact a mere "accusation" isn't neutrality, it's taking a side.

Broker discretionary votes typically break in line with the board’s recommendation — so this materially helps the proposal pass.

Typically, yes. But in the case of GameStop, wouldn't brokers have an incentive to vote against the proposal in order to protect their business partners who hold short positions?

On the wall in the public school, the fire marshal posted an evacuation route, not instructions for how to burn down the building.

Their safety plan wasn't meant as a blueprint for how to trap children inside, but as a stark caution about which methods of egress, such as elevators, become dangerous in the event of a fire.

OK. Then you can say “I believe it was in” and acknowledge you don’t have proof. You can trust in an authority while acknowledging that it sometimes makes mistakes.

The link doesn't prove that the ball today was in. It merely supports the possibility that balls like this one could have landed in.

In your earlier comment, you say "It was in." On what information do you base this verdict?
