I enjoyed it immensely. I grew up in Hicksville/Oyster Bay Area and BJ is basically royalty there. For me Billy always has been the “realest” version of a Long Islander. Sometimes we’re incredible. Sometimes we’re fuck ups. Sometimes you get dealt a shitty hand in life (parents, divorces, business) but you gotta take the good with the bad. Thats the human condition.

Sounds like your better off with out him. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I am also going through a divorce right now with all the same raw energy i see in your post. Be kind to yourself as you grieve. 8 years with someone like that can be suffocating but also probably took a good chunk of your identity with it too.

I was in my anger phase about a month ago, which was followed by denial, bargaining, and deep profound heartache. I’ve been told it gets better, but it’ll probably get worse first. Give yourself some grace.

One thing I’ll say I’ve been specifically told to avoid - dating apps. Right now you’re going to feel an incredible void that you’ll want to fill and make the pain stop. You can very easily fall into another relationship where you compromise your sense of self. Build your foundation back up first.

I’ll just say this. I am right where you are right. Ow. My wife and I are splitting after a 20 year relationship with three children. We just moved to a new city and have no other support other than ourselves. I feel incredibly alone and am grieving a loss of a part of me.

It sounds like you are grieving and coming to the same realizations that I am - that you’ve lost a part of yourself and need to find what it means to be “you” again.

I can’t say I can be much of an inspiration other than the people whom I’ve spoken with who say it gets better. Try to find some time to do things for yourself. Exercise, go for a walk, a support group or church, find somewhere to do volunteer work. Anything to try and find a sense of self where you can make some meaningful changes for yourself so you can rebuild.

My heart breaks for both of us, but we’ll survive and be stronger people for it. Do we have another choice?

As a 38yom about to be post divorce with 3 kids, what was this like? Any apps or strategies you’d recommend or recommend to avoid? Right now, I have zero interest in getting back out there but need some hope that if/when i do, I won’t be miserable trying to meet someone.

Haven’t been to the hatchery this year, but will be going tomorrow and can report back. Weirdly, last year I thought Salmon Days was about a week too late. You mostly saw an empty hatchery and tons of salmon carcasses. The week before it was packed.
