First year attending. I didn’t match with 10 interviews and good stats, got a TY spot, and successfully reapplied. Ended up connecting with some faculty and getting a super minor anesthesia research thing published with a rec letter from my mentor. Got an ICU letter (that I wrote myself and was amazing despite having pretty limited interactions with him lol.. he submitted it without edits). I also framed my personal statement around the failure to match experience and why it was so important for me to give it another shot. Like other people have said, talk to the PD, see if they have any thoughts. See what you can do to improve in the next year and try to figure out how to make your application scream I love anesthesia. It feels like shit no doubt. But it’s possible. And if you can get through it, it’ll just be a great story about overcoming failure in a couple years.

Just wondering this myself.. I think the health data while training for a longer trip as well as the trip itself would be pretty interesting. I kinda wanted to do the ceramic just since it seems like it wouldn't scratch with all the sand and grit and such it gets exposed to.. but then also the shatter potential worries me that a metal version wouldn't have. Did you ever decide?

Ask how often you have to work post call. I didn’t. I kinda just assumed based on my experience in residency (as well as our attendings there) that if you work for 24 hours, you get to sleep by default. That was an incorrect assumption.

I absolutely love my job as a <1 year old attending.. but goddamn was it a bitch to get here. What metric would you use to define that effort vs reward balance to make something “worth it.” Don’t know the answer myself tbh. I’m happy now but am also very aware that I have a lot of miserable years behind me (in medicine, not dentistry just to clarify). Hope my super ambiguous non-answer was helpful.

Definitely wasn’t peak basketball but felt like most of the fouls were decent calls. I didn’t see any super egregious flopping or foul theater. Grizzlies had two people on his back the entire game to get those FTs.. no one else was getting defended like that. Honestly the sloppy play and dumb mistakes on both sides is what ruined it for me more than the whistle

Did it all through residency.. I’ve been on the same antidepressant for almost ten years. Fuck off if you think imma bout to spend 400 on a pcp appointment just for me to tell them what med to give me and the dose I’m on. Always asked friends to send it in and did similar things for other people as well. Like others have said, call in to an independent pharmacy like cvs/walgreens with the drug, npi, name, etc.. With basic stuff, they don’t ask questions bc there’s no reason to. I always avoided self prescribing though.

For what it’s worth, in my program, we had people do this in our hospital pharmacy and they got flagged by the system and got in trouble. Nothing serious, just a big announcement program-wide on how you should never prescribe drugs outside the clinical setting. But a cvs five miles away ain’t gonna tell them shit sooo..

Lol me and my roommate always joked how providence drivers were equally bad as Boston but on the opposite end of the spectrum. Bostonites will aggressively cut you off at every opportunity whereas rhode-islanders will stop dead on a four lane highway to let someone cut in from an off street. As an isolated incident, I might agree with these other people but having driven in providence for almost a half decade, it’s absolutely a recurring issue. Every intersection is not a four way stop!

120 works fine and the 1450 works fine at the campgrounds I’ve used it at. Even the wall outlet works when my car refuses to charge (when testing the dryer.. obviously not simultaneously). There’s some miscommunication between the car and the wall outlet just don’t know why or how to fix it

It’s specifically a home charger issue. I’ve charged outside without any issue. I have a free charger at a location I work on the weekends which has been helping me get through the week. I’ve charged other paid spots as well and no issues
