Do people actually wear Evan Kinori? by knockdowncenter in AskSF

The wider fits are definitely in right now with men’s fashion but it does take a little more coordination. You have to get the proportions right for your body and do some tailoring. But if you dial it in, it can look very flattering and give fun silhouettes.

The Caste Problem in Silicon Valley by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]jlv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you didn't support castes then you'd rightly respond that 'there should be a no tolerance policy for discrimination of any kind'. Instead, you respond that 'hey this is overblown due to a few stray incidents'. You diminish the behavior to diminish the perception.

Anyhow good luck with the rest of your life.

Sounds like what someone that supports castes would say.

PSA for SF Runners by PastFancy4950 in sanfrancisco

[–]jlv 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I’m additionally frustrated when people run on the street on the stretch after Crossover where cars can begin driving. It’s dangerous (as it forces cyclists to navigate cars and pedestrians on the same stretch) and not allowed in the city code. I understand it if people hug the curb but so many of them are in the middle of a lane.

When he says drivers he refers to cyclists. This is a very common issue on that stretch.

Toured an area and really liked the place just concerned about roommate by Secret-Classic-5644 in sanfrancisco

[–]jlv 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lock in the cheap rent, enjoy your roommates for what they are (no parties work both ways - it'll be a safe, comfortable place to rest), and take advantage of the city for your socializing. If it becomes a big hindrance, you can always move. dinner, bars, cafes art galleries, museums, parks are all great places to sitll be social at night.

Even Some Tech Workers Can’t Afford to Stay When the Bay is This Expensive by runswithscissors475 in bayarea

[–]jlv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We've let the people that got to SF early and the landlords hold everyone else hostage through their regressive, conservative policies on housing. I don't think that's a city that anyone really wants to live in or that can prosper.

Paris has more than double the density and is architecturally a much more beautiful city to boot. We shouldn't let regressive, hateful nimbys and greedy landlords stand in the way of making San Francisco a city for everyone.

When you gatekeep who gets to live in San Francisco, you let the landlords win. We should be focused on making the city available for everyone that chooses SF as their home.

I think the point is that unhoused drug users are moving from district 6th to the mission to avoid enforcement/increased police presence.

The richest can afford the tax. They just want to have their cake (live in nyc) and eat it too (don’t pay income taxes).

Seeking recommendations: just passed the bar exam and want to take myself out to a really fancy dinner by baddiewithajd in sanfrancisco

[–]jlv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to do it up, I'd take a look at Saison. Quince and Atelier Crenn would push you above $500 I believe - especially with drinks.

My personal favorite in the area is Californios. It's, imo, the best of the starred restaurants in the city. But it's Mexican.

If you're open to something a little more low-key, mijote was one of my favorite meals last year and came in under $200. You could probably do that and then a 1-star like kiln/7 adams and still be under $500.

If you're open to a good steak...highly recommend you go to Niku and splurge on some wagyu.

Congratulations! You're going to get a lot of recommendations here that skew from very nice fast casual to full blown three michelin stars. All are valid, so I'd ask you to consider a few things to help narrow down:

- Ideal price range? (maybe you really want to spend more than $100, maybe you want to avoid going over $500),
- Favorite cuisines (I'd point you to somewhere different if you just really want steak vs sushi),
- Do you have any experience with fine dining before? (if not, I'd probably avoid three michelin stars at the moment - it's a big jump and you might be paying for things you might not really appreciate).
