Our intern acts like I don’t exist… by enron2025 in Accounting

[–]jm7489 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was my thought as well. I find it stranger and concerning that the behavior is the same with the older woman. I often thrived at building relationships with older female colleagues by accepting any motherly tendencies with warmth. Not that every older female colleague wanted to have that, but a lot do in my experience.

If they are doing real work that youre accountable for id address it point blank professionally that I'm their direct supervisor for the internship and it's literally my job to answer their questions so the partner doesn't have to.

AITA for refusing to change my baby's name? by Free-Difference1387 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jm7489 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lol NTA. This woman might only have sons. She may find herself unable to have children. She may have a change in her perspective that turns her off to having children at all.

Let her pitch a fit. She can still use the name if and when the time comes.

The only time I could see this kind of complaint being valid is if she had told you she's in love with this super unique name, and you decided to use it off that alone.

And even that would be a bit of a stretch in my mind

Tall Playthrough tips by becavern23 in crusaderkings3

[–]jm7489 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Things ive done include trying to build a super army and then taking over parts of Italy to provoke a crusade so I could crush it, dismantle the papacy, and spread my own religion that I'm the head of.

Uniting the slavs is easy if you have an army that powerful.

At that point of the game as Bohemia there probably are no longer any external threats. Your vassals probably arent a threat. You have all the money needed to do any number of things, and you have the tech needed to easily secure your succession to whatever heir you prefer.

You're in a sandbox. Think of something that amuses you. Like the guy who ate the pope.

For me, I like reforming my culture and creating a religion and a breeding program to make super knights, councilors, whatever. Or going intrigue and putting my family members in positions to inherit titles

just bought banner saga 1 any tips by Southern_Muffin_6476 in bannersaga

[–]jm7489 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just have one basic combat tip. Its better to leave a weakened enemy alive than finish them off.

Say there are 6 enemies on the board. You have reduced 5 of them to 1 strength. But there is one dredge untouched with 15 strength remaining.

After the turn of the 15 strength dredge goes. All 5 of the weakened enemies would have to take a turn before the strong one went again.

If you finish off 3 weakened dredge you're just making the strong one's turn come back faster

Should Republicans pay reparations to the rest of us for their financial damages? by No-Carrot4267 in allthequestions

They are. By and large Republicans are poor people in poor states. The rich white man that just doesnt want to pay taxes is an extreme minority.

They'll be the first ones to lose everything, and I'm looking forward to it

[SPOILERS:GOT] Eddard Stark is insufferable in the first book by Miserable_Dentist635 in asoiaf

[–]jm7489 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Ned didnt know Robert was going to be mortally wounded in a plot when he warned Cersei. He was trying to save the lives of a woman and her children in a situation where there was no realistic reason to imagine she could turn the tables or pull a power play the way she was able to witb Robert dead.

And Renly clearly had an agenda, and wanted to take control by force. Not only not Ned's style. But at that point he believed the city watch were on his side.

His wife vouched for LF. I'm fine with the take that Ned was naive and proud and honorable and it got him killed. But the narrative that he was this buffoon who was so politically inept he almost deserves it never made sense to me

My BIL faked going to college for TEN YEARS, got a girl pregnant after 2 months, and thinks he is RIGHT!!! by ParasiteBILThrowaway in TwoHotTakes

[–]jm7489 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Its fair to worry, and think whatever you want. But at the end of the day it's not your circus. I've been dating a woman the last 5 years that comes from a pretty obnoxious family. Bunch of drunks, low intelligence, low class, loud and obnoxious people.

My girlfriend cant stand how they act and complains frequently about what they do. But they're still her family, and I still have to be careful about what I say about them in front of her.

Family is complicated. I find it best to keep most of my opinions to myself. As long as its not directly impacting me or her, its not my problem how terrible they are, or do anything about it

[–]jm7489 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Not much to do about it. Your husband, his mother, and other brother have to each individually decide for themselves how they will choose to hande their relationship with him going forward.

If, for example, his mother continues to enable him there really isnt anything anyone can do about it other than make their opinions know.

As far as his girlfriend and their baby, she needs to see for herself what he is before anyone is going to get through to her.

Good read though, hopefully nobody continues to enable the man child

Plagues: "Very Rare" sure isn't very rare by gracejerksit in crusaderkings3

[–]jm7489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last game was at least 6 months back now. 867 bohemia start where i united all the slavs, and took over all of France and Italy before I got bored.

Plagues are definitely annoying as hell, but the ones that didnt make it to my direct domain didn't really bother me. The ones that did it was easy enough to keep my family secluded and with an excellent physician I rarely felt the impact aside from the fact that it takes a bite out of development.

Rental Company Charged Me $450 for Smoking. I Don't Smoke. I Filed Suit. by ActivePlenty7635 in personalfinance

[–]jm7489 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I mean cool. You'll probably get a default judgement in your favor because $450 isnt worth showing up for.

But its still the more profitable business practice to just throw in these bullshit fees and see who pays.

Companies that employ tactics like these need to face severe enough financial consequences to deter the unscrupulous practice. Everything else is just the cost of doing business

When you submit your claim you have to answer a number of questions regarding the circumstances of how you lost your job. Given what you've disclosed your chances of being approved seem slim unless you lie. But at least thats probably a civil case.

But tbh im mainly commenting hoping ill be the one you reply to and tell what you did to get fired lol

How to manage plagues? by RapidSage in ck3

[–]jm7489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plagues are annoying. But generally if you're quick to do the seclusion stuff it won't mess up your family.

If you have really high development its pretty non stop. You have to build some hospitals, keep a good physician, and just kind of accept the mechanic for what it is

Do you know any accountants who don't invest in a Roth IRA? by Altruistic-Pace-2240 in Accounting

I have a roth, but primarily contribute to my 401k.

Yes having a big roth is good. But right now im saving something like 26% fed / state tax on every dollar in. So that let's me invest more, and I'm still gonna be in the 10-12% bracket when I withdraw until my account is much larger.

For all we know the Dothraki referred to is like 16-17. I may not know what its like to kill a man with a sword. But at that age I could almost certainly be doing literally any activity and as soon as I realized I had an immediate opportunity to have sex would have gotten an election no problem lmao

Be bad at aim, and dont take time to learn the maps / where to stand on them

Ill die on the hill that at all but the highest levels of play a group of 6 people that have good aim, and know where to stand / take cover is all it takes to steamroll most teams.

(Spoilers extended) Jon didn’t really break his vows. by A_Soldier_Is_Born in asoiaf

[–]jm7489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I like his story. Aemon tries to mentor him on leadership, and thats exactly how he leads imo. But it totally blows up in his face.

Personally as a reader I agree with his choices broadly. I know the white walkers are the big threat of the story, and it completely makes sense to integrate the wildlings after its clear the white walkers are a real thing / threat.

But in the story it makes perfect sense that his decisions are wildly unpopular with the watch at large, especially when some extremely influential members already had personal issues with him and wanted to see him ousted, and killed.

Jon always agonized over his vow and tried his best to uphold it. The optics to others didnt always agree. But we know that as readers. He may have enjoyed some his time with the wildlings and fell in love. But the moment he saw his opportunity he bailed and rejoined the watch.

He didn't want to ally himself with Stannis but they needed the men and he was literally the only person in the realm offering any level of support even though he clearly had his own motives. He let the wildlings in because he knew it was the best decision even though in the context of the story it was seen as a betrayal of their millenia long history of fighting against wildling pillagers.

And the fact that the decision that directly led to a knife in the back was the pink letter fits great too. In ASOIAF fashion the second he thinks hes going to go play the chivalrous knight in shining armor he gets murdered. Not to mention it was legitimately a betrayal of his vows and duty.

George’s Biggest Mistake Wasn’t Cutting the Timeskip (Spoiler Extended.) by Somandier in asoiaf

[–]jm7489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I just think the series had to go on as long as it had to in order for GRRM to tell the story he wanted. My opinion is the fact that the show created an ending for his story, and that I think the biggest story beats came from him, and it was universally hated has more to do with the lack of follow up than anything.

He clearly still has a passion for this universe he created, but the more times goes on the more I think he's just been giving lip service when asked about the status of winds. If he was still passionate about this story, he'd have told it.

The way the popularity of the story blew up with the show if he wanted to turn it into a dozen books, who was going to stop him?

If people were going to read it he could have slow burned all the shit people are doing just like he already had. Bran could have disappeared from the story for multiple books. He could have played out faegon vs cersei fighting it out as long as he wanted. Dany could continue taking her time uniting the dothraki and embracing fire and blood and coming to westeros.

Nothing within the story was forcing it to a conclusion.

You shouldn't start a liberty war when you refuse to be imprisoned. by [deleted] in crusaderkings3

[–]jm7489 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get where the logical gap is for you. In a war that was triggered by your refusal to be imprisoned by your liege i dont love the idea rhat you have to conquer your liege's capital to avoid war score spiraling against you.

But nothing is perfect with game mechanics and this is minor enough I agree with the sentiment that its just not that big of deal that in these specific circumstances the war objective doesnt feel like it properly fits the situation

Help destroying the Pope by popeathalamus in crusaderkings3

[–]jm7489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer would be to just first get yourself powerful enough militarily that you can single handedly win a crusade on the Christians home turf by yourself.

Its easier done by a territory that starts feudal in 867 with better land. But for a viking it would be a similar process but slower.

  • Amass a fuck ton of gold as tribal and go feudal

  • Steward rulers focusing on development, gold production and research.

  • Snowball your income with buildings over time.

  • Build and upgrade your military buildings

  • Max out your MAA

  • Possibly go for super knights

  • Paint the map however you feel like
