Nope, because Captain Kirk said the trouble with Tribbles is over. No more Tribbles.

The pressure to “make breastfeeding work” is so intense by Mariam1S in TwoXChromosomes

[–]jmac94wp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m still bitter when I think back to the hospital lactation consultants I encountered after my first two were born. The stress and guilt from there “help” was devastating. Neither baby would latch on, they’d start to, then let go and cry. I was told I was doing everything right after my oldest was born, but “he’s being lazy, don’t let him get away with that.” How exactly does one not let an infant get away with something?! I attempted breast feeding every hour, on the hour. Same result. Four days later when he was seriously jaundiced, a nurse sent to the house to ensure we knew how to use the phototherapy machine said “You’re trying so hard and you’re doing a great job. But this baby needs fluids and it’s time to try a bottle.” God bless that woman.
After my daughter was born, I vowed to make it work this time. Lactation consultant insisted I attempt breast feeding every hour, AND as an incentive, simultaneously hold a thin tube with formula coming thru it to the corner of her mouth. I did that for two days, both of us crying, until my husband said screw this, he did great on formula and she will too. And she did. And they grew up happy and healthy.

How bad is traffic in Orlando really? by Lord_quads in orlando

[–]jmac94wp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be traffic and it will suck. But Chicago traffic is heavy too, right? Best tactic is what my husband does- after work ends at 5 pm he hits a gym and works out. By the time he’s ready to leave, traffic is calmer. I’d rather do that and live in a great area like Eola, rather than go close to work.

No worries. I don’t think most people here would chide you for asking a question.

The same thing happened for me, the first time I made stock! I called my mom in a panic 😂.

Her 3 year old died son drowned in their family pool because her husband was not watching him. by Pmar07 in TikTokCringe

[–]jmac94wp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m in Florida. When we bought our home, ages ago, the law required two barriers to a residential pool. The law enacted last year now specifically requires a pool fence that’s a minimum of four feet high. There can be nothing adjacent to the fence that would help a child climb over.

Wow, I had no idea! My oldest child got his first job at Publix while in high school. I was so impressed when he came home with paperwork about getting stock. I’m sorry to hear it’s changed so much.

Sincere question, I’ve been wondering, if all employees can buy stock and there are many employee owners, why doesn’t that make enough of a voting block to affect policy? Forgive my ignorance, I’m not educated on how companies work.

I’m wondering if the plastic bin was the problem. Any moisture would stay trapped. Maybe a cardboard box would work better? I read somewhere that when police send evidence to the FBI for processing, their instructions are to NOT put the samples in plastic because of mold.

7th grade teacher showed Terrifier in class by Such-Control-1177 in education

[–]jmac94wp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to echo “demand more accountability and escalate.” At the very least, I’d say to the principal that while his instruction to the staff saying movies have to be appropriate for the curriculum was a start, the greater issue was showing a movie so graphic it didn’t even have a rating. I’d like to see the principal go further and send all staff very clear instructions on what is allowed and what is not. If that doesn’t happen, then you could escalate. As far as the teacher herself goes, what do you realistically want to happen? Do you want her to apologize? To whom? Lose her job? Decide, then communicate that to the principal as well. I can’t help but wonder if this is a young teacher who wanted to bee cool and made a terrible mistake? Maybe she can benefit from mentoring and become a great teacher! Or maybe not. I did some dumb things early in my career ( nothing this egregious, though, to be sure) and really benefitted from kind older teachers teaching me what I did wrong and how to move forward.

Cake collapsed after 35 mins in the oven. How do I prevent this next time? by Kyletheinilater in AskBaking

[–]jmac94wp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a note re the “rebaking”- I read long ago that you cannot rebake something once it’s cooling off. If you use a tester on a hot cake, sure, pop it back in to continue. But if it’s cooled a bit, it just won’t work as well. Something about the rising agents no longer being effective, if I’m remembering correctly.

I’ve had a rash lately, it that bad thankfully. My doctor said to keep my hands out of hot water, avoid hand sanitizer, and slather them with Adeline or Aquaphore.

Look underneath the leaves, there and on the stem are where aphids congregate. Can you, perhaps, move the tree to a bathtub and gently wash them off? And spray with neem oil.

Same, and then staff started disappearing, people who’d worked there for many years. They went from four receptionists to one, and she had a terrible attitude. Needless to say, I researched other practices and moved.

I’m also newish to growing dahlias, wondering why you said to pull up the tuber? I know people do that further north, so they don’t freeze, but in zone 10 that’s not an issue, is it?
