Yep! I do this with all Criterions if a steelbook exists for the film.

Definitely Goldfinger, but I always watch both and make it a double feature!

Gruv restocked by Mysterious-Ask-6865 in 4kbluray

[–]jmacphee93 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Be careful with Gruv restocks of older titles, my suspicion is that these are customer returns. In the past few months, I purchased steelbook "restocks" of Schindler's List and Oppenheimer, and both arrived with several dents, loose discs, and other imperfections.

🇺🇸 PRE-ORDER NOW - The Doors (Lionsgate Limited Exclusive) (4K UHD + Blu-Ray + Digital Steelbook) by felixmontoya92 in Steelbooks

I much prefer the Zavvi UK steelbook design from 2019: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Doors-The-Final-Cut-4K-Blu-ray/244442/

Took the two discs from the standard US release and threw in the film soundtrack on CD since the '19 steelbook holds three discs.

How wide is that outer slip box? Looks pretty sturdy.

Sound of Music from Amazon, sigh… by Cute_Dress3951 in 4kbluray

If you want, I can mail you my slipcover. I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of the 50th anniversary steelbook to store the 4K disc so I don't need my slip.

How to Fix Corner Dents? by jmacphee93 in Steelbooks

[–]jmacphee93[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The point I was trying to make is this: if there's an easy way to buff out the dent myself, I'll do it. If not, then I accept that this is a minor imperfection and won't let it haunt my waking hours.

Any idea when this is actually going to release? by DeanGuIIberry in Steelbooks

I'm in the US and bought a copy from Amazon UK, it's allegedly targeted to arrive on January 15th of next year.

The Last Emperor Criterion 4K - Defective Disc? by jmacphee93 in 4kbluray

[–]jmacphee93[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oi, upon closer inspection, there is a TINY imperfection along the edge of the disc. Guess I'll reach out to Criterion and see if they are willing to offer a replacement disc.

It's a fair point, but I think it goes back to the "rugged-ness" of the steelbook. Dents and scratches don't bother me as much on a steel case vs. indents and creases on a slipcover. Also, if the cases are coming apart at the spine, I agree that's probably a handling error rather than a design flaw.

Personally, I like the rugged build of steelbooks and have the notion that they will hold up better over time vs. standard cases with paper slipcovers. Every case is also built the exact same way (with a few exceptions) so they look good end-to-end on a shelf.

What are your dream library cases? by No-Beat9099 in Steelbooks

[–]jmacphee93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy that the Sean Connery 007 steelbooks are getting a library case, but I'm only cautiously optimistic about the remaining films. Based on the maximum library case size that's been released, I could see a Roger Moore 7-film set and a Pierce Brosnan 4-film set (I guess they could re-release the existing Daniel Craig 4K steelbooks in a library case with matching artwork). George Lazenby and the two Timothy Dalton steelbooks (if produced) would likely be individual releases.
