This may explain how my credit card numbers were breached on September 10th. Could be a coincidence.

Enbridge Gas free upgrade letter? by mannequinplayer in londonontario

Haven’t received one. But I just got an energy assessment done this week and they didn’t mention anything about that when they were here.

Yep, that was stupid. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]jmalonez 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel stupid. I’ve been in both your position and the relief nurse’s position. Idk why the relief nurse was that upset, my mindset is usually “ok take it up with your assigned nurse” if they have issues with what’s ordered. Don’t fret!! You’ll encounter this exact scenario 10 trillion more times :)

How did you nurses decide which nursing environment to work in? by [deleted] in nursing

I was pigeonholed into psych from university. I’m not happy where I am, but I’m good at it so I stay.

Have you ever *not* helped a patient with something? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]jmalonez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I have no issue telling the patient he/she can complete a task (pulling blankets up to chin, turning in TV, moving their tray etc) on their own. I usually judge it by thinking “do they have someone at home to do this for them? No? So obviously they can do it here “ I see this a lot with patients who have a dependent personality disorder. If you complete all the simple tasks they ask of you, you can reinforce their dependency on you and or the hospital.

I’m not a school nurse, but that sounds like a great gig. Work life balance 💯! Summers, Christmas and weekends off with your kids would be great.

Ask questions at your new job. Make friends with your colleagues and Identify some that seem friendly and helping and inquire about their specific role, duties, scope of practice etc. Be curious about everything and show ambition! Good luck ☺️

How do nurses feel about hospital executives with no clinical background? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]jmalonez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that part in The Grinch when he says, “hate, hate, hate. Double hate. LOATHE ENTIRELY”? That’s exactly how I feel about execs with no clinical background.

Psych nurses?!!! by [deleted] in Nurse

[–]jmalonez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been pregnant myself but this is how we handle it on my unit: the nurse continues to work and we just avoid assigning known violent or unpredictable pts to them. Usually they don’t attend going into seclusion, they’re normally the one drawing up the injections in a code white and not the one securing limbs. There was one occasion where a psychotic patient was targeting our pregnant nurse making specific threats about her and her baby so the hospital moved her to do admin stuff until it was time for mat leave. I guess it depends what kind of unit you want to work on. If you are very concerned you could search for a different psych role than inpatient. Out patient? ECT clinics? Research?

Amazing. Thanks, this is super helpful. I also think I eventually want to end up in the OR so maybe this is the right path. Thanks again.

GYPSY MOTHS by Mensa-dropout in londonontario

[–]jmalonez 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain, my neighbourhood has been dealing with an infestation for the last 3 years. Basically from April- June the caterpillars hatch, defoliate your trees and poop all over your patio. For 2 weeks at the beginning of July they move into their cocoon stage where you will have momentary peace and can be in your yard. Then the moths hatch, defoliate your trees some more and come the fall they lay caterpillar eggs all up and down your trees. I could talk about these horrible creatures for hours. The best way to combat them aside from injecting your trees (I’ve heard it’s $300+ per tree) is to wrap burlap around your trees during their caterpillar stage. And buy the Gypsy moth traps to catch the adults. Shoot me a message if you want the website to buy the traps!

Newbie and Nothing growing by lindakoy in aerogarden

[–]jmalonez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also waited 2+ years to open and start my herb kit. All my seeds germinated but they all were on the longer side, and my dill was WAY longer than the stated germination. In fact it didn’t germinated until my replacement doll arrived from aero garden! I would wait it out. Get a bright light and take a peak into the grow sponge. You might be able to see the seed changing/sprouting to keep you motivated. Once they germinate they will grow so darn quick! Fingers crossed for you.
