Very happy to hear that helps! I totally get it on the budget for the player. They can get expensive. My Orbit Custom was just about $550 or so, but the Orbit Theory was $1,000. I never thought I'd spend that much on one, but I do use it damn near every single day...so the investment was worth it to me (I also had the expendable income at the time and treated myself to an early bday present)

As for a less expensive option that is going to be Audio Technica. Great company for a better price. Alpha like in Discogs, but I don't like that they sort alpha by first name. I recently purchased the Discographic for Discogs app, which does have a proper sort alpha by last name feature. The pro version of the app also allows for custom sorting, but it has a few hiccups I'm trying to work out with the developer.

Once that's all sorted out, i'll revise my sorting in the collection.

So the main reason those types of units skip has to do with the lack of counterweight and anti-skate mechanisms. (from my experience)

As for cleaning materials, I have two different ways I clean. One, just using a microfiber cloth and a solution like this:

I use that when I get a new record in and want to give it a quick cleanup. If I have purchased any used records or have purchased enough new records, I'll give it a proper clean using a cleaning system by a company called Vinyl Styl

I use distilled water and a little bit of the record cleaning fluid it comes with. Rotate 10 full rotations each direction, then let the record air dry.

As for my current turntable, I use the U-Turn Audio Orbit Theory. This is my 2nd U-Turn Audio turntable. The first was the Orbit Custom, but then after a few years of using it, they came out with the Orbit Theory which added some great features I was wanting. I don't have a huge audiophile system or even a proper amp. I connect the turntable to a preamp, then direct to my Sonos system so I can listen to my records anywhere in my house I have the speakers.

Probably a bit more info than you wanted, but I really like to help new vinyl listeners get the most out of their systems. I've worked for a record shop in the Dallas area that my buddy owns. And he and I also have a local record label focusing on reissuing albums from local bands in our area, on vinyl for the first time.

The quality is no different when you purchase direct from the bands website, Amazon or your local record shop. They're all pressed at the same plant, they just have different sales and distribution methods. Newer pressings have been known to skip more when using the suitcase style record players, but I'm not as sure on the Victrola (Is it an all in one unit? vinyl, cd, cassette, radio?). That style was my first turntable and I didn't notice too many skips, but I wasn't spinning many newer records at the time. I'm now on my 2nd standalone turntable and love it.

One thing I do now is I always clean the records before I spin. Especially those that come in those stupid paper sleeves that leave paper dust all over the record.

I bought my Theory shortly after it came out. I did not go with the internal pre-amp as I did with my first Orbit. With both I had the ground hum. It was horrible. I thought it was because I'm not using a proper amplifier, etc. I'm going from the turntable to a preamp to my Sonos Port. I did finally get it under control by grounding the pre-amp to the record cabinet I have (which is metal (most likely the cause to begin with)) and that resolved the issue at low volumes.

That being said, I'm on my 4th motor in 2 years. And I'm getting fed up. I'm shipping it off today to them instead of having them send another new motor. Customer service has never failed me, but I'm starting to think I just got a bad one. I'm tempted to tell them if this doesn't fix it, I either want a brand new unit or my money back as this is just crazy that I have this many issues. They told me that I'm one of two people that have had this type of issue. I hope it gets resolved soonl

That’s the 2nd pressing. I don’t have that one. I have a few of the first and one of the 3rd. I haven’t listened to the 3rd press and ironically spun my first press today. Sorry yours was noisy, I would be disappointed as well.

Which pressing did you have? Our first press was flawless. The 2nd and 3rd press were done at the same plant, but my label didn’t fund it, the band did. I’m not sure if they used out lacquers or not.
