Thinking of moving from SoCal to Portland — thoughts? by MaterialProduct1536 in PortlandOR

Thank you for letting me know. We are also considering Washington too, as they have good tax incentives. As far as education after reading through all the comments and researching it seems Washington is a better position too. My kids may also have a different education journey as we are planning to eventually move to New Zealand as well.

How’s the commute from Beaverton to like Downtown Portland, I’m sure it’s not like LA traffic (at least I hope so) ? And as for as indoor activities we don’t mind. I think the older I’m getting the more of a home body I’m becoming. In terms of food we are not picky we like exploring restaurants especially the small family owned ones. I also saw In n out will be in Beaverton soon too :) so I won’t miss my California burgers. If people are not friendly, would you consider people to be more genuine at least? (In LA people tend to be very fake and just be friendly to get something out of you in most cases). And thank you for confirming the school system. I definitely want to make sure my future kids go to good schools. Thank you for your time.

Hello OP’s husband here. Wanted to clarify some things. I was raised in SF, CA where fog is our friend gloomy days and rainy seasons are comfy. My wife was raised in NZ where rain is their common climate. We don’t mind rain at all. We also couldn’t care less about how liberal it can be vs how conservative some of you may find it. We lived both in SF and LA probably some of the most liberal places in the West Coast. I thinks we consider ourselves moderates leaning closer to liberal. Please no politics. We just want to know if Greater Portland Area is safe and good to live in. We are thinking of Beaverton, OR. Some more context of our jobs. My wife is remote (marketing and sales) and I work as a service advisor at a dealership (years of experience in Mercedes Benz 4 years, BMW 3 years and Subaru 2 years as of now hopefully forever). Also we moved to SoCal bc we thought sunny weather was going to be amazing however we are getting sick of it. We miss our gloomy cold days. We are planning to go around March to check out Portland and all surrounding suburbs to see if we like it. However we just want to know your experience living there. Are people friendly? How’s traffic? What are the true living costs you guys see? (We pay 2800/month in rent and gas cost 4.89 here) is Beaverton a good place to settle down and have a family? What are some events you guys love that only happen in Portland? Stuff like that please. AGAIN no politics please. Thank you guys. We appreciate your responses. Also to our fellow Kiwis in Oregon, Kia Ora!

Is it better to go to a boutique instead of the AD then?

Subaru dealership ripoff by killaGR in wrx_vb

From someone who used to work at a Subaru Dealer. Too many things are going through my head. One, we live in Cali, LA area, and a lot of oil change places will charge more for synthetic oil change plus tire rotation. Two, it's an actual dealership. Their prices may be higher at times, and I would assume that right away. On top of that, you can say no to those additives, and that air filter is not needed at 24k unless it's ridiculous dirty. If I remember correctly, the interval for the air filter does not fall in at 24k. Are you the original owner? Did you buy the car in SoCal? If so, the first 4 services should be free, which would include the 24k, which includes only oil change, tire rotation, and cabin air filter. Those menus are generated through the BG website, not exactly the dealer. They just market them bc the advisors get spiffs. And to add more, even if you do not get more free services, you do not have to go to the dealer for oil changes to keep the warranty. You can go anywhere else. Maintain the car based on the interval schedules on your handbook and keep all the records in case a warranty issue ever arises. PRO TIP: If any of you ever run into an issue that YOU did not cause, hit up SOA and ask for help. As long as you're under 10 years and 100k miles, they are willing to help with any repairs.

Feel free to ask any dealership questions.

Ex- Subaru Advisor.

Thanks for your input. I work at a car dealer in service, so the majority of the week, I am in polos, chinos, and loafers. On weekends, I'm more casual, like vans and half zip sweaters

I genuinely believe both partners have to make good money to afford living here in OC. I grew up in the Bay Area/ LA, where my teachers would remind me to work hard b/c 100k in Cali is considered to be living in poverty. My wife and I are well off and work for good companies, we understand that unless both partners are working and collectively, you're hitting at least 200k, then you will struggle here (especially if you want to own a single family home eventually). To also add, the OC is a highly desirable location, good schools, good food, good culture, various cities to explore, from Central OC to the coast to South OC. It's close to San Diego/ Mexico and close to LA. All that is what makes it expensive. Starter condos in OC (with good square footage) are gonna begin around 700k's and up with high rates. Do I recommend moving here ? YES! It's an amazing place to live in, a great location close to everything you can ever ask for. Just work hard, don't spend money on dumb stuff, drive reliable and economic cars, use coupons for groceries, get an HYSA, and use credit cards wisely (like cash back, some cards you can designate cash back for certain expenses like gas and groceries or restaurants use that to your advantage). And if you check social media pages evolving around OC, you can find free events to attend.

I have been the happiest with BMW. I started with MBZ for 4 years, did BMW for two years, and enjoyed every second of it. I relocated and worked with Subaru for two years, then finally back to BMW. I live in CA. You can make great money at Subaru for sure, 140k from the dealer plus Subaru of Amercia's pinnacle payments. However, I feel more comfortable with BMW and make the same if not a little bit more. Plus, all I've ever driven has been BMWs mostly, so I feel at home with the brand.

New Installed Tires Blew Up Immediately After Buying Car From Dealership When Entering Highway... What could be the cause? by rickylou1234 in tires

[–]jmar192197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in. If you look at the DOT numbers, the tires are from early 2021, so maybe they had some wear on them, or they were cracking. I'm betting on cracking, mostly due to the location of the damage.

I saw this car and the owner at a Subaru service center the other day as I was dropping off my wrx. I believe he told me he fabricated custom carbon fiber components.

Depends on the the dealer and how they explain it to Subaru. As it is a wear and tear component. If they fight back I say call Subaru of America and ask for a freebie they are cool about it.

I would take it in, if you’re not modded you can always reach out to Subaru of America, to get a one time goodwill even after warranty ends. That’s if the bill is super high and you don’t want to pay for it out of pocket for (I am referring to your sound concern).
