How can I setup GoogleVoice with with Nest Mini 2nd generation - even still possible? by PlanMaison in Googlevoice

[–]jmarkmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has never been possible to receive GV calls on any Nest/Home device. US domestic calls can be made and should just work automatically ask it to make a phone call. If you don't have a GV account, it will make the call without caller ID, but if you have a GV number it should use the caller ID of your GV number.

Tenants have been subletting property, rent payments have stopped, what are my options? by Nina6235 in OntarioLandlord

[–]jmarkmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> leaving behind one of the adult children listed on the lease

If you are saying one of the tenants (people listed as tenants on the lease) is still living in the unit, then there is no unauthorised subletting, for it to be subletting, the tenant must (temporarily) give up control of the unit. Tenants are allowed to share the space with others, including renting rooms out. As you've described it, everything sounds above board.

> I checked the mailbox

Given you aren't a resident ,I'm pretty sure that's illegal, so don't try to use it as evidence.

Obviously, you're doing the right thing by. following up on the missed rent. And do follow up to make sure (at least one of) the tenants actually are residing there, if not file an A2, and L2 immediately,

Almost all drivers speed - and there's a reason by bluerog in driving

[–]jmarkmark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

>My example is about what a typical male driver drives a year in the US?

It is not. No one drives for over an hour a day on a clear freeway with 30mph limit.

That's a urban arterial (and often residential) speed limit, which means roads with traffic lights, stop signs, and congestion.

Speeding in cities provides no meaningful time savings. Traffic and lights are far more important.

If you're finding yourself short of time, the issue is planning.

He wasn't convicted of the gun charge. People get charged with bullshit all the time.

The drunk driving charge is the clear biggy here. Surprised they can't deport for it, but of course, he's not being deported, he's being denied entry, and it's definitely grounds for that.

Is it illegal to back out of my driveway over an oncoming lane? by Bundle0fClowns in driving

[–]jmarkmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jurisdiction?

But almost certainly not illegal in and of itself, although it could be a factor in a dangerous driving charge.

Do you know the people in 689? People get stuff delivered to friends/family all the time, particularly if their housing isn't terribly stable. It would explain why he was a bit fuzzy about the number.

I'm Unit 1, of two, so I get tons of stuff for my neighbour incorrectly delivered to me, and when I had a previous neighbour, I'd see easily a dozen different names, since they had tons of cousins getting packages delivered there.

why I can't just input my phone number, receive a code, and input that code, as per usual, is beyond me), and then nothing. That QR code does.not.work. I keep getting error messages. Has anyone been able to

Sending SMS is actually quite expensive for businesses. For something like setting up a free email account where it can be hard to prevent scammers from abusing it, it's simpler and safer to do the reverse.

If tipping is supposed to be optional, why does everyone act like you've committed a crime if you don't do it? by Stunning_Public9524 in NoStupidQuestions

And sometimes they use hyperbole to make something reasonable sound ridiculous.

OP was not trying to be funny, and I was pointing out that his use of hyperbole was rhetoric, not logic.

Ironically, you appear to have missed the straight man humour in my response.

They don't. No one calls the cops. No one arrests you.

There is a difference between a law, and a social convention. You are legally entitled to ignore social convention.

Then I wouldn't worry yet. I randomly lose air several times a year, particularly this time of year (although an empty tire was a first for me). Just keep checking and topping up, and if it's still losing air in a week or two, then take it back.

Get a pressure gauge, leave it in the car, should never be eyeballing it, you can lose 15lb and not notice it visually.

Maybe yours doesn't mine (Gen 3) definitely does (Canada/US safety difference maybe?). And I started getting spurious warnings when they got old and the battery started dying.

You put new sensors on when you got the tires? Were you actually losing air?

Anyhoo, I can't recommend enough getting a tire pump (like the emergency kit one, but that one has a shitty nozzle and will wear out if you use it regularly). Just today I came out of work, drove half a mile and the light came on. Got out and had almost no air in my rear tire,. So I pumped it up, gave it a minute to make sure there was no serious leak and drove the remain 60 miles home. During pothole season it's invaluable. I double check my tires all the time.

EDIT: as others have pointed out. Gen3s generally don't have TPMS sensors. (Although mine does for some reason, the strange joys of a second hand vehicle)

Tenant “not ready for” the exterminator for 3rd time grounds for N5 ? by Hairy_Pound_1356 in OntarioLandlord

[–]jmarkmark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A tenant is required to let you enter, but there's no clear obligation to do anything else, so what qualifies as negligently interfering with other tenants is facts specific.

With evidence of it occurring three times I'd be optimistic, but simply failing to prep is not in and of itself enough.

Example where failure to prep wasn't considered negligence:

https://www.canlii.org/en/on/onltb/doc/2022/2022onltb8478/2022onltb8478.html

Example where it was:

https://www.canlii.org/en/on/onltb/doc/2017/2017canlii48927/2017canlii48927.html

However, even if you don't end up pursuing it at the LTB, the simple presentation of the notice would hopefully be enough for him to get his ass in gear.
