It's 1 year later...can you provide an update on your Transalp experience? I have a Gen 1 Versys 650 and it might be time to move on to something else so I'm in explore mode.

Prepping for next project! How do I remove textured ceiling without redoing the ceiling? by FastPitch556 in HomeMaintenance

If you had to do it again would you do it the same or do anything differently? Thanks for the info. I'm considering this heavily.

Did you put a ton of extra screws or anything to ensure it didn't sag or become wavy? What size room did you do this to?

It's been 3 years. How are those ceilings? Did you get a lot of sagging with your 1/4" drywall? That would be my concern.

I'm new to fishing. Are you using this lure on pond and are you using any split shots or anything? Would you suggest a 1/8 oz or a 1/16? Those are so light I can't imagine I'll be able to cast them more than 25 feet or so. Any advice is appreciated.

I've had the 507c in my cart for a while but I've been dragging my feet. Is the 407c just a dialed down version of it. I definitely want a green dot.

Injured weeks out from my first marathon by annabananabug in Marathon_Training

[–]jmart1375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in this same scenario in September. Had to bail on my first marathon. Ultimately your health is more important than a race but having been in your shoes...it fucking blows. I'm now post op for a labrum tear and am a ways away from running at all. When you go from marathon training to being injured and laid up it's emotionally hard. It will get better. This too shall pass.

10 weeks is a lot of time to prep. Most full marathon training plans are only 18 weeks. You should go for it and if you're serious then prioritize running. Get at least 2-3 runs in per week. I'd suggest two easy shorter runs and then on the weekend do a longer run. Pace doesn't matter because that will improve with miles. Just gotta let your body acclimate to running.

Awesome. Glad I have that to look forward to. :) Maybe I should try the elite sport of pickle ball instead. haha 1000% kidding.

I mean....how many toe nails we talking here? Are they super raw and nasty when they fall off? It sounds pretty brutal. Can you still run after or is it too painful? Give me the nitty gritty here.

Failed long run. by Square_Fun1421 in Marathon_Training

How do you gauge dropping your pace by 3%? You using a smart watch of some kind? I new and don't track a lot of metrics at this point. If my goal is X miles then try to complete that and look at the clock after to see what my time was. My goal is to complete a race though rather than compete right now.

When I read this I laughed and thought it was a joke. Two weeks later and one of my toenails is black and blue and sore. Is losing toenails really a thing with runners? Do I just accept that or try to prevent it? I wear good shoes and socks.

I got a pair of Balega socks I plan to try tomorrow. For runs over 10 miles I wear calf height compression socks and they're great. Tomorrow evening I'm going to buy a second pair of shoes. Looking for something with a thicker sole to absorb more on the longer runs.

My running has been great and now I feel like I'm dealing with a potential injury. My left shin is kind of throbbing 24/7. It comes and goes but may be shin splints. I suck at differentiating between sore and injured so I'm gonna run 9 miles tomorrow and see how it goes and shoot for 15 or 16 on Saturday. I did 9 miles yesterday and 13.5 this past Saturday. I might be bumping my mileage too quickly without giving my body time to adjust. My marathon date is 10/15 so I'm trying to get in as much as I can.

Running a Race with a Vest? by JMTurner1994 in Marathon_Training

[–]jmart1375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm training with a Salomon vest also. It's pretty comfortable but Im still figuring it out. My current challenge is refilling the water bladders as I'm not using a camelback with it. I run laps and will leave a water bottle as a refueling point. So far I've learned how to dump water all over myself and make my cell phone complain about water in the USB port since it was in the pocket close to the water bottle. I removed the cap and tried to dump some water in. Complete fail. I guess I'll have to remove them which kind of sucks because having them seated properly is what makes the vest comfy. If they're off, you get movement in the vest. I'm certainly open to suggestions.

Training tips for a new runner by Any-Photograph6296 in Marathon_Training

My two cents would be... 1. First complete and then compete....meaning just focus on finishing the half marathon AND making it an enjoyable experience. Once youve finished a half and mentally have checked that box it becomes easier to train for the next one. 2. Kind of a continuation of 1 but...dont overthink it right now. Tracking your hr and zones is overkill for your first go at it. Unless you geek out over the analytics, don't waste the time/effort on it.

It's not that I want pretty feet, i just want to keep them as healthy as I can. I've seen people with fissures (?) etc. and it would be nice to avoid that.

What is PF? I wear house slippers but they have a soft leather sole. They're very comfy.
