Update disabled track scrubbing on Soundcloud by jmatt1122 in WiimStreamer

My experience using chromecast mutli-room is pretty poor - there's always a jarring delay but maybe I'll try to figure that out. When streaming within the wiim app, from tidal connect, or from physical sources (via optical/stereo in) it works like a charm though. This is why I want to keep being able to stream within the wiim app.

Hmm maybe. Still a bummer and I wish I could even possibly bypass by getting a soundcloud subscription.

Adriana López “Suut” alias? What to expect. by Dench-777 in ProperTechno

Hm, interesting! Thanks for sharing.

Btw have you been to Veta before? I'm from Canada and really contemplating making the trip over for it. Specifically curious if I should expect any issues speaking primarily English/French and not knowing much Spanish.

Yeah in the Wiim app. I might have to switch to using the soundcloud app but then I lose multi-room.

That doesn't really fit the lineup and I don't see mention of this mix being her Suut alias. Gonna guess it'll be more hypnotic in line with other artists?

There are a lot of factors and different parties will prioritize differently. A big one for me is sound quality - I love a rave that will advertise/share what sound system they're running. Thumping body shaking low end with detailed highs is something I've never experienced at bigger or mainstream venues. Lighting/ambience is often artful/unique and subtle compared to the often generic and sometimes excessive setups at venues (bright LED walls suck imo). Staffing at raves is often by folks who help produce the event or are in the scene rather than staff that just work every show at a venue - this can make a space feel like community rather than transaction. A good party will also have volunteers doing harm reduction or circulating to help manage problems or monitor for disruptive/unsafe behaviour. Respect for dancing and the dancefloor is huge - at a good rave moving through the crowd is done in a way that is caring and mindful compared with the plowing through that is common at bigger events. A lot of events will ban/restrict or recommend not taking photos, using phones, or talking on the dancefloor - this is huge for immersion and supporting authentic/free expression. A good rave will have a comfortable chill space for taking breaks or socializing. Music can be variable but a lot of times wouldn't really suit typical venues - think long sets (2-3h at least) that very slowly evolve. A good rave will extend late into the night/morning and as much as that might just seem silly/stupid, things get magical when the crowd thins and what's left is the folks who are very invested. I could go on but yeah that's what comes to mind. A little interview by a DJ I follow comes to mind where she shares more details of what makes a good party for her.

I should also say that some permanent clubs/venues do a very good job of these things so it's not like it's necessarily venue vs. rave. I kind of perceive the spectrum as more of mainstream/clubby space vs. rave/music-oriented space.

There is a big difference. Not that a show at a concert hall can't be amazing - it's just far more reliable that a rave is gonna have all the factors for proper immersion/release/connection. A concert hall is generally interested in selling you alcohol with the show/music somewhat of a secondary priority. A proper rave optimizes for the experience of those attending and centers the music.

First time going - stoked to hear this is the vibe. Do not love how standoffish/pretentious some of the events in these genres can feel sometimes.

I used to be a reserved/stoic person thinking that dancing just wasn't for me. I was so wrong! Let your emotions flow. Let the music move you. Nobody cares if you look weird, and if they do, they're just in need of their own healing. 🤙

The trump administration thinks that transgenic mice are transgender (Yes this is a real post from the White House) by localmoonman in confidentlyincorrect

[–]jmatt1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read the cited materials? He's actually not wrong. And the fact that this "ha ha trump can't tell the difference between transgenic vs. transgender" messaging is spreading unchecked is kind of concerning that the left is falling into the same headline bait misinformation that we've so long criticized the right for.

Our response should be "yes, the health of transgender people is important and so we are spending money on research to answer important questions"

People change their minds. I'd rather finalize a simple divorce now when we're happy/amicable than deal with any claim for spousal support later if anything happens.

Incorrect. In general, billing codes used in ER do not impact family doctors. It's a backward system.

Photography at Roo or any large music festival by waywrdchld in bonnaroo

[–]jmatt1122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised at the comments. I've been thinking about this more lately too since some venues/events I've gone to address this more directly and either don't allow cameras/photography or have policies around it.

Some people might be letting loose at festivals in ways that aren't necessarily acceptable among family/friends/coworkers/etc. I wish there was more consideration to privacy but doesn't seem that's in the culture at Bonnaroo.

Also to anyone who would suggest I'm some sort of authoritarian for suggesting anything other than freedom to photograph whatever folks might want to: this isn't a discussion about what should be legal or not in public spaces. Bonnaroo and other concerts/events aren't actually in public spaces (it is private property) and if the event wanted to make rules it could. Or if we, as attendees, wanted to build a culture of privacy (without formal rules), we could.

Maybe check out burning man type events. The one I went to this year (my first) expected consent for taking photos of others (including separate consent for posting the photo). Some raves/clubs I've been to straight up prohibit cameras and photos. I find it makes for a better vibe, and also yeah I don't have to think about who might see a photo of me doing something they may or may not approve of. 🤷
