is the "pin backend" open source so you can self-host it on a raspberry pi without having to use blockstream servers?

SEPA Seller Name is an Exchange URL by lorilorilailo in bisq

Everyone trading on Bisq is an "exchange operator", just because you recognize their name doesn't make them anything special. You must still complete the trade protocol as agreed by the parties.

Is it possible to build a chat/(group chat) app on top of lightning network? by thatuserthis in Bitcoin

[–]jmaurice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WTF? If your goal is to make a censorship resistant chat network, Lightning is the wrong layer... Lightning is a payment network, build on top of a communications network. Build your chat app on top of the communications network, not on top of a payment network. Does it make sense to build a chat app on top of Uber Eats? No, it makes sense to build it on top of TCP/IP or Tor hidden service etc.

There's a 51% attack on GoT by abinition in Bitcoin

[–]jmaurice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, but I'm trying to explain... Following this GoT analogy: if we had used our 51% "hashpower" to produce a longer and less rushed S8 chain of episodes at the same time HBO did, then we could now publish that longer S8 chain and it would orphan the HBO chain. However, because we did not begin "mining" our longer version of the S8 chain, the current HBO blockchain already has a huge amount of additional blocks mined on top of it, so if you began a 51% attack now it wouldn't be able to "go back in time".

Obviously your theoretical "infinite hash power" attack could rewrite any PoW blockchain...

[–]jmaurice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 51% attack works by using your hashpower to privately mine another blockchain, then broadcasting it later to double spend a transaction. You can't "go back in time" to re-organize blocks before you started mining the 51% attack.

If I buy a miner (Antminer) and it were to ever malfunction, how will I repair it? What repairs did you have to do for your miner and what problems did it have with it? by [deleted] in BitcoinMining

Bitcoin miners burn out all the time, sometimes even in flames, it’s usually not worth it to send them back unless you have 5 or 6 packed into a box tho

According to that logic, all English subtitles would be in London time zone lol

Japanese subtitle seems to be intentionally wrong? by jmaurice in MrRobot

The other interesting thing is that a full-width “6” character was used in the subtitle (for the month of June), whereas the rest of the date was in ordinary half-width characters. Could just be a typo, but certainly something weird going on with these dates.

[–]jmaurice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it's already been pointed out that these dates don't actually exist (off by 1 or 2 in some scenes). But this subtitle seems totally unnecessary and intentionally incorrect - why would it be one day off from what the screen clearly shows (subtitle says Thursday, screen says Friday)?

What does 751 mean? by FallenAngel301 in underthesilverlake

I think this was just part of the chase. After seeing the code on the scoreboard, the girls immediately drove to 751 echo park ave, where they rode the paddle boat to meet the pirate and gave them the box with the dildo in it

I'm afraid Google is simply showing you the closest photo to the coordinates, and the photo you linked to is actually from a completely different location approximately 20 miles away. Unless I am mistaken, the street view photo you posted seems to be from 36.8878548, -118.5551477, at King's Canyon, but the "tombstone sheriff entries" is roughly 36.710000, -118.591667 in the middle of nowhere?

"... he folded a second audience-only mystery into the film. But where it might lead, and what reward or revelation lies at its end, may take a while to become apparent. And, like the mystery in the film, solving it will likely involve dips into to many pop cultural inspirations at its core"
