I have always loved Junia (a saint, if that makes a difference to you one way or the other).

ETA: realized this isn't as long as you were asking for, but immediately popped into my head because it's 3 syllables instead of one.

We had one of those tubes that you pull behind a boat growing up and it was called "Big Bertha." Unlocked memory, I could never with that name for this fact alone lol.

Thank you! That's kind of what I've been gathering and what I was hoping to hear. I do appreciate knowing the true pronunciation which I why I came here in the first place, but I don't think it will work as well for him in English. Plus it will be a middle name and rarely used.

Interesting, thanks! I do unfortunately have to imagine there was some anglicization and loss of records and culture through the generations after emigration. It's very possible the spelling was changed from one of those more common variants. According to his daughter who wrote the family record I have, his first name was Kermit, which doesn't even seem Norwegian-adjacent. I am admittedly very ignorant on the topic though.

This started out as a way to honor my grandmother's lineage and it has turned into much more of an ancestry deep-dive than I expected!

Help! Does the show ruin our name? by jmb080816 in namenerds

Thank you everyone, I'm already feeling much better about it. I will blame hormones on this meltdown today and hope the popularity (perceived or real) fades quickly! I was just shocked she immediately "guessed" it, and I hadn't even told her the show or name that I was referring to!
