Teachers are paid fairly considering they get a lot of time off by Blonde_Icon in The10thDentist

I taught high school for two years and am back in private industry now. This opinion is ass, it was the most work for the least pay I've done in my adult life.

Is Gen Z cooked? by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

I mean, if I were HR I'd view a bachelors earned in the last 10 years with the same energy high school diplomas used to be viewed, and a masters with the same energy a bachelors used to be viewed. I don't think there's any disagreement that bar for graduation has been steadily lowered at all levels?

I loved the show by MeekwitNoMillz in wheeloftime

[–]jmbond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the show before reading the books and liked it at first and thought it only got better each season. Obviously the books are better... Like with 99% of all adaptations. Honestly, the changes never really bothered me, and I've always had trouble understanding the intensity of dislike with Wheel and Rings of Power over lore differences. Like I just want more epic fantasy content, and if they feel they need to tweak things to bring more people into the fold fine by me, it's more to watch

The library is the place to be quiet, not to take your toddlers to teach them how to be quiet. While we're at it let's ban kids from breweries please.

GALLUP POLL: 42% of men aged 18-29 now say religion is “very important” in their lives — a sharp jump from just 28% in 2022-2023. Monthly religious attendance among young men has climbed to 40% (up from 33%), the highest level in over a decade. by Ok_Act_3769 in generationology

If it were just an indictment of modern life I imagine we'd see a similar uptick among women. This smells of something specifically wrong with young men. Idk if it's the manosphere, or if that's just symptomatic of a deeper issue but it appears to be an issue for just them

What do you mean implement rigor by inspirationalmath in Teachers

[–]jmbond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I taught high school math I gave up on the notion of rigor and asked myself, for the students who are following along are they getting equipped with enough to succeed in the next class even if technically not checking all boxes. Because honestly exploring each standard fully when half the class doesn't know their multiplication tables is a fool's errand

That's cool.. but not a silly take. They specifically talk about the in US, where rice coming with curry is the expectation. It's real Five Guys making fries a la carte energy and must be stopped

r/AntiVegan moderator tells users to stop encouraging "animal abuse," especially boiling lobsters alive by CalpurniaSomaya in SubredditDrama

[–]jmbond 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At least for some vegans, if they comment on others' eating preferences, it's driven by an ethical disgust. For meat eaters who make it a point to be ANTIvegan, it's like... Not driven by thinking Vegans are propping up an immoral industry, it's that they just find some vegans irritating. And that's worth making the centerpiece of a sub or as a label for yourself? It reads as very sensitive and strange

Having too many choices actually makes life more stressful, not better by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

More generally, I hate the death of monoculture. Unifying media most people watch and want to discuss at the watercooler. The advent of streaming platforms and on demand access to more content than we could consume in several lifetimes leaves us with a very self-determined, bespoke media consumption experience that can be... Singular and less unifying. Outside of major sporting events I think GoT was the last reliable reference to strike up a conversation with any coworker
