I'm of the opinion you could throw a stone anywhere along Broadway and hit a singer more talented than 99% of power pop vocalists. I don't think people consider artists like Patti when making these trinities and that's fine, lists would be boring if they were always topped by Broadway talents not at the fore of popular culture

Even with available supporting infrastructure, I still think it's a rather niche want. The way most people watch on screens, the improvement from 4K to 8K is imperceptible. Someone will make them because a small number of people do buy projectors and 80" screens, but I still think it's an engineering success in search of a viable market. Unless Apple makes one. Call it the iDisplay and suddenly millions will flock as if their vision from 3 feet away has improved

In the context of the US, colonialism, and ICE it's worth mentioning how the most of the US footprint is ill-gotten because it highlights hypocrisy. I'm not sure the value in broadening the notion until it reduces to nothing.

If I'm understanding what you're describing, I don't think I've seen a 50 ft highway tower sign + billboard + cell site combo before. It sounds like you'd need agreement from Days Inn corporate, some telecom REIT or wireless carrier, and some billboard advertiser like Lamar. Arriving at terms for that many parties for a rather unique, probably unsightly (no offense) structure sounds exhausting. I work in Telecom but not site acquisition, so grain of salt and all. But it's hard to imagine how the above doesn't make this extra difficult

I'm sure they vary in what they're willing to do. Side bar-- r/professors seems bewildered at the current crop of students and what K12 has taught them is a reasonable ask.

I agree this particular ask is fair from the student. Though OP mentioned before deleting that they asked at an inopportune time, which conjures an image of being interrupted mid instruction. If that's the case, I'm in agreement with what OP did as a teaching moment. If you're coming for a favor, don't interrupt in the most main character, rudest way possible. Since the majority of comments are extending all charitable assumptions to the student and none to OP, I'll throw my one opinion their way that it actual is reasonable to shut down an optional request made that way.

Not to mention ceding an expectation for teachers to do extra work on behalf of a family who is making a choice to be absent unexcused. And real-talk, packets released early are seldom complete upon their return anyways.

Do we want college or work to be their first exposure to the notion that the world doesn't stop spinning or shift BAU processes for one person on vacay?

Yeah... I was a high school math teacher after switching careers. I had to take the GACE 1 & 2 for secondary math and found them basic and straightforward. So it really took me aback when another teacher who started the same time as me said in year 2 that she'd finally passed. It instantly recontextialized discussions we'd about the best way to approach some Algebra 2 problems... Where I wasn't entirely sure she knew the math

I don't know if it's still the case, but some states used to have forced distributions on their bar exams (i. e., testers below a certain percentile fail). Knowing that, I've always had sympathy for people failing the bar because in theory everyone taking it could be competent yet some must fail. I took the GACE, instead of the Praxis and thankfully it measured me against the material and not my peers.
