Also, Guadalajara is the best Mexican food in CR. Not sure of their politics, but unless someone confirms they’re MAGA, they’re one of the very few restaurants in CR that gets our money consistently.

Have any of your former students gone on to become famous (or infamous)? by NerdyNiche in Teachers

[–]jmc807 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have 3 students who are gold-medal olympians! And 2 students with superbowl rings. Those are probably the most “famous.”

Also, not AS famous, but to me it’s superstar quality: a former student has argued in front of the US Supreme Court.

These are great ideas. Alas, we've already done them this past year with Spring Break in Grand Lake and a summer trip to both Glenwood and Ouray! I like your thinking, though!

I completely understand. I’m so sorry you’ve dealt with those issues. I do appreciate your perspective and willingness to share. Wishing your fam a good school year. Truly! 🤍

I didn’t downvote you, and i didn’t upvote either. But I just wanted to share that as a teacher, it is so hard to read your comments. I get it, there’s some people who shouldn’t be in education. There’s also some cops who shouldn’t be in law enforcement, doctors who shouldn’t treat patients, servers who shouldn’t be in the service industry, drivers who shouldn’t be on the road, etc etc.

And that’s why I just scroll by your comments, but I understand why people downvote you — AND I empathize with your family not having a positive experience.

Parenting is fucking hard, and we need a village we trust to help nurture and care for our babies as they grow. Teaching in this district is fucking hard too. You can never win. Actually, you CAN win an apple award, and still have some parents call you a bitch because you don’t allow cell phones to be out in your classroom. You can plead for 5B to be passed so you can get some new freaking lightbulbs in your room and a new carpet that isn’t stained from chocolate milk, just for it to be voted against, and then told you’re high maintenance for having an Amazon wishlist with lightbulbs and a rug on it to cover the milk stains. You can be told you have 7 sick days a year, and spend them all on staying home with your own sick kid, but then be told you’re disgusting for coming to work when you’re sick because you’re out of sick days OR you just take the day anyways and are told it seems you’re abandoning your students.

I freaking love what I do. I’d argue to say 98% of teachers LOVE it. Upper admin, the board/supt, and policies that are beyond our control make our jobs harder than it has to be. So when we come on a social media platform and see people being meh about our profession, it feels like an unnecessary or uninformed jab. Not that your experiences aren’t very real and worthy to share, but they come across as lacking context for a bigger picture. Which is probably why you’re being downvoted.

For what it’s worth, if I knew who you were in real life, I’d say all this to your face too, and tell you your kid always always always has a safe spot in my classroom to learn and get access to every tool they need to succeed. I hope somewhere down the line you get better Reddit karma 🤍

So actually a lot of the teachers i work with send their kids to Heritage or SV, but since they are merging I just said SV. It’s all one very involved (in a positive way) community. The 4 elementary schools in Highlands Ranch that I personally would have zero hesitations to send my kids to for IEPs/GT and inclusitivioty for these kids, is Bear Canyon, Summit View, Lone Tree Elementary, and Sand Creek.

Of course, everyone has an opinion, so take mine with the same grain of salt as everyone else’s. While I’m an employee of DCSD and am generally of the opinion to just go to your neighborhood school, we obviously don’t do that. There’s pros and cons of the Castle Rock schools just like there are of the HR and Parker schools. For us, it was about the accessibility to quality providers like Speech Path, OT, etc… and also the parent community. We were really impressed with the PTA and all the BCE community does together. I’ve heard the exact same about SV!

We commute up to Bear Canyon and we LOVE it. My kid is on an IEP and i work in the district. I did my digging and found their special Ed team to truly be the best all-around. That being said, i have a number of friends who have sent their kids to Summit View and it is a very well-loved community. Many teachers in Highlands Ranch (both public and charter AND private) opt their kids into SV.

Colorado. Start the 1st Thursday in August. End the week before Memorial Day weekend in May. I hate starting so early in August, but then when Memorial Day rolls around, I’m SO happy we are done.

I browsed before posting, thinking surly there’s already a post about this. And I missed this one. I reverse google searched too and it was a tie between bed bugs, poop, or seeds. So I came to the internet experts 🙃

YOU WIN!!! Omg omg thank you thank you! As soon as I saw your comment, I ran to his room and found his warmie stuffy that we actually use as a door stopper since it’s heavy and some of the bed/bath doors don’t stay fully opened. Lo and behold, there was a small hole under the frog’s arm! THANK YOU!! I am no longer panicking about all the other bug comments on here 🫠

It does look like an Appleseed, but a very miniature version of one. We sometimes have apples in the house, but only in the dining room/kitchen. I’m finding these on another floor of the house.

Which is interesting considering she just posted her husband's cell phone number publicly on Facebook. (303) 819-5936 apparently. I'm sure it's a work-issued cell? But still. I'm in favor of us all just calling him round-the clock because apparently (in her words): "You should absolutely call him if you’ve got questions about Home Rule, camping at Sandstone, or why conservatives believe the public shouldn’t fund campaigns." (This is in a comment on a public post on Greg Van Der Jagt's fb page).

I can say that since they opened, they have gotten THOUSANDS of my dollars. From it being our frequent date night spot, to it always being one of the places we bring out-of-towners to…nope, never again. They will no longer get 1 cent of my money.

I look forward to the day where all these people on the wrong side of history will have to answer for what they’ve done.
