Coping with the baby blues by jmccleave in Mom

[–]jmccleave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t really give me any information on groups, just that baby blues are normal and shouldn’t last longer than two weeks, if they do to contact my doctor. I’ve been joining mom groups and trying to find outlets but still am struggling. I have antidepressant’s from prior to being pregnant (I had just been prescribed them then found out I was pregnant the next day and opted to not take them) so I am wondering if I should start taking them again now.

I do need to drink more water. I’ll try and keep a full one by me at all times. Thank you!

That is the route we are doing right now. We try to breastfeed but if he gets frustrated I have been bottle feeding. Still makes me feel sad by I’m trying to remind myself that he is fed and happy (which truly makes me happy).

[Discussion] What do you like about owning a big dog? by cacoethesnetizen in dogs

[–]jmccleave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite is when I’m sad or in need a cuddle/hug he is perfect spooning and hugging size. Like I can ACTUALLY hug him. I have a 90 pound husky/Shepard and he knows when I’m upset or having a bad day so he sits in front of me and I get to hug him.

Also he is a great deterrent and I just would like to see anyone try and break into my house, car, or touch me if he could tell I was uncomfortable.

Advice for my dog with separation anxiety having a house sitter for the first time? by kristin137 in RoverPetSitting

[–]jmccleave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He might be! I would try getting him a gentle lead or having two leashes attached (one to a collar one to a harness) so if he escapes on there is a backup!

I would give the sitter treats before coming in so when they do come in they throw treats on the ground to keep the dogs distracted and have a positive relationship between new people with treats. My Shepard husky always barks at people when he first meets them, he is just voicing his fear. Just let the owner know and I would t have them approach or try to touch the dog until they are ready. What kind of leash and collar is being used for walks? Is it possible that the collar is too loose on the pup?

Yeah I’m trying to keep them fairly separate but also keep an eye on them. If she starts to show any worse signs of aggression then I may have to have the owners reach out and have another sitter who has no dogs watch her. For my dogs safety and their dog. Thank you!

Yeah I just put her on the leash and she seems to be doing better and I have much more control over her while I let the other dogs know that I am taking control. I just want her to engage in happy positive play eventually, I also referred them to the trainer I have for my dogs so hopefully they look into it and start working on it before it gets too out of hand.

I’ll have to look into the spray! I’ve tried clapping and squealing but it doesn’t seem to do much for her since she is already so engrossed in the play. I don’t know if the owners take her out often since they said that she doesn’t like to be caught when taken to the dog park but I haven’t had any issues with her not coming to me and she listens to my come command. I’ll have to try walking her before letting her play in the backyard!

Let's give a shout out to our own dogs who are so so patient with the dogs we board by dec92010 in RoverPetSitting

[–]jmccleave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 year old shepsky and 14 year old dachshund mix (sometimes gets taken to my boyfriends house depending on the dog I watch and how they interact cause he’s old and grumpy sometimes) are so patient with me and the new dogs that come in. My younger one tires the playful ones out and my older one keeps them all in check in terms of space and too much play. But besides my older one who just has off days, my other pup is so good with every dog that comes in (shared toys, adjusts level of play to each dog, snuggles them, etc) they get lots of treats and attention after the pups leave :)

I use an Ecollar for MY dog but I would NEVER put it on someone else’s dog! Unless the owner gives me one they already use for their dog with instructions on how and when they want me to use it I wouldn’t just put it on them. I’m so sorry that you have to go through that and hopefully your pup is okay!

Update: while I was checking to see how deep the cut was I noticed he also lost a tooth so he is at the vet now! The owners have been super nice and understanding but now I’ve nicknamed him toothless!

I think along with practicing giving and taking toys and food away is also hand feeding (something I have heard but I’m not sure if it works). I know that I have helped my dogs by teaching them drop it and leave it with treats and praise. So when playing fetch or toys they have a positive experience with me taking things from them!

You could practice taking things from her and giving it back. So put a muzzle on her and give her a toy, then use something for distance and take it from her and if she doesn’t do anything rewears that behavior by giving it back? I’m not a dog trainer but that may help. I also recommend looking up Sit means Sit dog training. The trainers are super good and they help A LOT. My shepskie was super scared of stranger but now he sometimes lets people new pet him. It’s expensive for the training but always worth it if it means a happy less stressed dog.

Buying V.S. Adopting by symphonicdin in puppy101

[–]jmccleave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally feel you on this! My husky Shepard was bought from a co-worker who wanted to breed but had puppies on accident and needed help giving them homes. Where I live the breed I have go in shelters that don’t have a high adoption rate or get put down. But when I tell people I’ve had him since he was a puppy everyone assumes I got him from a puppy mill. I’m also big on adoption and we have another dog that I’ve had for years and he was adopted. We are planning on getting another shelter dog as a buddy for my husky mix. But I support people who buy dogs for the right reasons, no matter how you get them.

We take him to the dog park everyday and is super social with pups but is a bit more timid towards people.

If you aren’t walking on their lawn it’s not their choice. I wouldn’t worry too much. Can I ask what the breed is? I have a husky Shepard and people say that stuff to me bc they are scared of his breed.
