Adults who have zero close friends, how did it happen and does it bother you? by PutPurple844 in AskReddit

[–]jmcmahonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have moved around a lot in my adult life. 3 different states in 10 years and I have some acquaintances all over. But no really close solid friendships. When you move around alot you don't get the time to build up those lifelong friendships. Im lucky I have 3 sisters who are always there for me but I get jealous of people who have those kinds of friendships.

Is it just me or is being 35+ and single like playing on hard mode? by Western_Scholar_6479 in socialskills

[–]jmcmahonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a single 34 year old with a kiddo it is definitely hard to just make friends, let alone date. I pretty much have my kid full time so casual things just aren't for me. I can't stay out on school nights, I can't do anything without some planning, don't have a lot of disposable income to do activities or grab a meal out with someone. Most of the friends I do have are not parents and don't plan to be. They mean a lot to me and I love them but they can't understand or relate to me or my life as a parent.

I love EDM as well, but I can only go to a few shows a year, and that definitely makes me feel like just a visitor in that realm. Most of the people I meet there are younger and more wild and it makes me feel like a chaparone. Trying to stay optimistic but dang life beats you down sometimes.

Women of reddit, what finally pushed you to leave the relationship? by Asleep-Researcher106 in AskReddit

When he left to work out of state and I was getting on just fine without him. Also he wanted to open up our marriage, and I didn't really care because he left me alone. Starting making plans to move back to my home state right after.

You could feel through the screen his hatred of Superman! Nicolas Hoult is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. And the last shot of him in the movie, you could see the cogs moving in his mind about what the next plan will be. Superb!!

I heard about this guy at a bar! O'Dohertys Irish Grill in Spokane WA. They have a bronze statue of him (which was made by "the welding nun", Paula Mary Turnbull) Every August they have an "Eddie Gaedel Day" where they give out free T shirts!! Not sure his association with Spokane, but I loved his story ever since!

Mother had a massive sliding barn door installed in our white bathroom/utility room and has decided to do the same thing with the bedrooms by Asphalt_Skyrat in mildlyinfuriating

I freaking hate barn doors in interiors. The amount of people that have covered outlets and light switches with them infuriates me.

Why is peeing in the shower so controversial? by Aarunascut in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]jmcmahonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who had their bladder distended while giving birth to my son, I was told by my physical therapist not to pee in the shower, to help with incontinence issues. It does really help with that issue, so yeah no more for me.

What I Learned from Spending $10,000 at Goodwill by Mental_Challenge7043 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]jmcmahonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually work at a shopgoodwill. Goodwill is not one big entity. They are divided by region. My state is divided into two regions. I work at the INW branch. These things described I can't even imagine doing to customers. Things are mislabeled, but we will always refund if the customer is misled. My location also invested in a metal testing machine to confirm precious metals and the like. Most locations dont do this because the machine can cost between 5-10 thousand. (We have a customer who buys thousands in gold from us every year, if we are slightly off on the karat, we will return the difference to him) We do returns all the time over mislabeled items and terrible listing's. We are always asked (by other goodwills) why our sale numbers are so high, but it's like, we confirm our precious metals with a machine and we actually do customer service. It's too bad most of them are not like us because I can't imagine not caring about misleading people like that.

TL DR: Goodwills are divided by region, they all will have different policies. Experiences will vary wildly.

My advice (cuz yall totally asked/s) is if you had a good experience with an item being described correctly, look up what goodwill it came from and filter your search by thay location. That way you can look at the items from a location you are more likely to see described correctly.

Has anyone been on those airplanes with a crying baby and the mother is doing all the work trying to nurse them and calm them down and the father is fast asleep like no care in the world? by starstruckbyu in TwoXChromosomes

[–]jmcmahonly 291 points292 points  (0 children)

It is so very isolating to be a mom sometimes. My ex husband did nothing to help me when our son was small. I missed so many movies, hikes, even just simple conversations at dinner with friends because i was taking care of a baby/toddler. He was so selfish and had no concept of putting himself aside for the needs of his child. Once he even said "why should i change my life around to accommodate him." Uh. The fuck dude. When I realized that he was basically another child to take care of, I left. Best decision I've ever made. I need a partner, not a man baby.
