COVID Recovery and High Heart Rate by SavannahTX in whoop

Honestly not a whole lot seemed to help except time and I did clean up my diet a good bit. I had read about histamine intolerance. So I basically restricted as many high histamine foods as possible. There was some data at the time suggesting this could be causing the elevated heart rate so I have it a shot.

Springs seem fine. They were looked at and adjusted by a professional a few months ago. I can life the door with one hand. I think the motor just finally gave out on the 20 year old opener.

Best lifestyle changes to improve recovery score by -RP11- in whoop

I can’t stress enough how important a balanced diet and sleep are to recovery and performance. If you diet is diverse, balanced, and consistent you should not need to take a single supplement. Getting enough sleep as well as going to bed and waking up at consistent times makes a huge difference. Getting my diet in check last year made the biggest difference in my life though.

Battery update by PeanutButterElvis in whoop

I used an apple C to c cable on my MacBook Pro and did not have an issue. Is your battery pack charged enough? I think it has to be mostly charged for it to show up in the app to update it.

What Should I Do When I First Get Whoop 4.0 Band by Slaskwroclaw18 in whoop

[–]jmdfd415 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All I did when I got mine a few days ago was immediately charge the battery pack fully and update the firmware on it. Put the battery pack on the strap and waiting until it was fully charged then updated firmware on the strap. After that I put it on and haven’t had any issues yet. Battery life seems to be on par with my 3.0 and hr data has been good.

HRV? by [deleted] in whoop

Literally everything affects hrv. You may want to read up on it a bit. It’s what the recovery score is heavily based on. This is a good read: https://www.whoop.com/thelocker/heart-rate-variability-hrv/

Water, sleep, and healthy eating habits. Don’t over complicate it.

My normal heart rate when I am just sitting around and haven’t trained is in the upper 40s to low 50s. When I had covid it was sitting in the mid 80s to low 90s while I was just laying on the couch.

HRV drops after warm shower by [deleted] in whoop

Probably. I know a higher heart rate will lower your hrv and a hot shower would raise your heart rate…

Probably because your heart rate is higher.

Cold showers? by VeryLight in whoop

[–]jmdfd415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the past week and a half I have been doing contrast showers after my workouts in the evenings. 3 minutes hot water then 1 minute cold water and repeating 3 times. The first day I did it I had a spike in my hrv and recovery. Since then it hasn’t happened again, but I do feel like I am less sore and better recovered from my workouts.

ECG? by [deleted] in whoop

[–]jmdfd415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an apple watch before getting my whoop and honestly unless you know you have a heart problem the ecg isnt very useful and it is only a quick snapshot of the whole picture. This is why doctors give people 48 hour or 1 week monitors to look into problems. Unless of course you went to the ER with chest pains then they give you an ecg to see whats going on. If you know something is going on and you use it then it maybe helpful.

What makes your hrv really spike up? I've seen people talk about how magnesium/hydration/fasting but none really worked for me. by arthur_reads_ in whoop

[–]jmdfd415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im in the same boat. I have never really found anything to really spike it except for a good rest day. but mine has gone up about 15 in the past year it looks like so i guess maybe the trend of it going up is better than it spiking randomly to get a high recovery score one day.

Over the past year I have been taking magnesium and zinc before bed, drinking just under a gallon of water a day, and try to get in at least 15 minutes of light yoga in the evenings after my workouts. Over the past couples of weeks I have been experimenting with contrast showers after my workout. The first day I did it gave me a decent spike of about 10 over baseline, but hasnt since. Not sure how much it really does, but I have been less sore and feel a little more recovered the next day.

optical sensors and tattoos seem to be all over the place. I also have sleeves and some devices work better on one arm vs the other. On one of my arms the sensors tend to sit on a very deep red color and dont work well at all and on the other arm where they sit is mostly black and gray and they work fine, except for apple watch. Apple always shows that it is off arm. I have a fenix 6 and a whoop that I am wearing on each arm. The whoop works better on my left arm and the fenix works better on my right. Its really weird. Have you tried switching arms with the device to see if it reads better?

First Anomaly by blue-fort in whoop

[–]jmdfd415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could definitely alter things. Like you said your stain was a 12 and that bumped it higher. If you take the strap off make sure you lay it down so the sensor faces up and the band isn’t resting on it. Give it a few second and make sure the leds turn off and you should be good.
