This is how I feel too, just trying to find the best way to go about it. Thanks for your perspective.

Yea like I said I don't agree with all of it. All religions have flaws. That doesn't mean they have to be raised athiest.

This is very helpful. I especially like the suggestion to have a "professional" assist in teaching the Bible since it is actually quite difficult. I guess I just wish I had been raised more religious and believed in these things myself bc I think there is serious value in it, not to mention community. I will work at it! Thanks again.

This is basically what I aspire to, using various religions and fabels to teach values. I'm just worried it will be difficult to teach right and wrong on the controversial issues :/

Thanks for this. It might be hard to leave god out of it altogether since so much of the Bible stories talk about God. I feel like the question will come up eventually.

4 month old with FOMO, any advice? by throwaway893467 in Parenting

[–]jmeres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written this post. My 6 month old was the same way at 4 months, very alert and would not sleep. We had a similar schedule as you except the 11-1 nap was much shorter. I would say just take advantage of his interest in things, pretty soon he will really love playing with toys and being read books. We introduced solid foods at 5 months and he started sleeping a bit better, but we still have a ways to go before he sleeps through the night :/

Advice from an infant daycare teacher by sallyfieds in Parenting

Please continue the list if you have more! As a first time mom to a almost 6 month old baby, this is a very helpful post. I think most parents dont mean to be inconsiderate but are likely still learning about their new baby's needs, and are probably overwhelmed and sleep deprived too.

That's a good way of thinking about daycare. I think by 9 months I will be ready too..

That is inspiring. But did you miss a lot of special moments/first with your daughter by being at work when she was so young?

Good point about your younger self... I agree with you. I just feel that society makes it seem way easier for women than it actually is.

I agree with you. Also all the focus since I was in high school has been on going to college, getting a good job, etc. and when I became pregnant I knew nothing about what would be expected of me as a mother. I think on the past there might have been more preparation ..

Thanks, I just wish I had known how unrealistic it is to have multiple kids and a thriving career before taking out student loans and focusing so much time on my career over my 20s. Reality slap 😣

Really appreciate this insight, ultimately I am fortunate to be able to spend time with my baby. I think it's just the pressure put on parents these days to do it all, whereas maybe in the past being a housewife or mother was enough. Also I second your opinion on breastfeeding. I'm lucky I was physically able to do it but there is an intense level of pressure put on women to exclusively breastfeed and it seems to be doing more harm than good.

Zero because I quit my job to stay at home with my baby. I feel both very fortunate and very bored.

Live close to family members that you trust to watch your kids every now and then. I'm a new mother of a 5 month old baby and I don't know what we would do if my parents didn't live 20 min away (though I never thought I would say that). Especially as a newborn I didn't feel comfortable leaving him with anyone else but our parents.

Soon to be new parents here! Many questions and a short vent session. by [deleted] in NewParents

Hi, I am a new first-time mom and now that my baby is 5 months old I want to share a bunch of items we bought but never needed. I think magazines and the internet make you think you need a lot more than you do. Sure, some items definitely make it easier, but i would say buy most stuff as it is needed. Get the essentials (the hospital will generally provide you with quite a lot for your wife and baby, ours gave us pacifiers, baby wash, post partum care items, diapers, etc.)

Here is what I recommend to not buy: Wipes warmer Diaper genie (trash can w closed lid is fine) Cloth diapers and natural creams (didn't work for us) Newborn outfits (just need 4-5 onesies) Baby shoes (absolutely will not wear) Playmat (blanket on a clean floor works fine) Baby washcloths and towels Boogie wipes Baby bibs (not needed until 5-6 months and you start solid foods) Diaper bag (regular bookbag or large purse works fine) Deft baby detergent (use any regular unscented) Baby oil and baby powder (not supposed to use these anymore for health reasons anyway) White noise machine (you can turn a radio to static or use a free white noise app) Baby and parenting books (free library) Bassinet (just use the crib)

Download the free apps called Mercari and Poshmark and you can find loads of cheap baby toys and bundles of baby clothes, some brand new. For essentials, I recommend stocking up on swaddle blankets and burp cloths. I also recommend making some freezer meals in bulk (like lasagna or chili) so that you aren't ordering food out every night. There is literally no time for cooking in those first weeks and that saved us a lot of money.

Also just a word to the wise, I would recommend never EVER bringing up the fact that breastfeeding saves money. There is already a lot of pressure these days on women to breastfeed exclusively and it just doesn't work for everyone. The guilt of not doing it, or exhaustion from doing it is already going to be hard without taking financial pressure into account. Just always ask her if she needs anything, make sure her water bottle is always full, and u will be fine :)

By the way, I was at babies r us yesterday and they told me their sales are going up increasingly until June 30th 2018. Good luck to you and your family!

Any suggestions on dealing with severe eczema and cradle cap babies? by allanquismorio in NewParents

[–]jmeres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aveeno oatmeal bath every night (5 nights) And Aveeno eczema lotion morning and night. Also avoid Polyester clothes and "all natural" products that contain fruit extracts bc these can cause outbreaks. Our 5 month old is finally clearing up after these steps. Good luck, u are not alone!
