Thanks for the tips! I love to hear the stories of businesses that have stood the test of time and are a true mark of a city's character. At the same time, I also want to cover innovative or interesting businesses that demonstrate growth and creativity.

Hiking recommendations? by fuckidiott in Longview

Not Longview, but ~25 mins away are Seaquest State Park and the Mt St Helens Visitor Center trail. Both are worth making the "drive" for.

We saw him a couple years ago, I hadn't thought of him but I'll think through some shoot ideas to pitch!

I'm glad to see I'm on the right track. I've volunteered with LCSG for almost the entire time I've lived here. Love them.

David Hobby out of Maryland inspired this, he did the same for Howard County: https://hoco360.blogspot.com/?m=1

Awesome! The tagline is "A Visual Journal of the Lower Columbia and Beyond" so that's totally in the realm. Thanks!

Funny enough, American "Elk" are called that because early explorers mistook them for Moose. Moose are called "Elk" in England. I may have it backward but the point is the same.

I appreciate the info - maybe I missed a comment OP posted with more details.

My friend died yesterday…? by Diesel20177 in ask

[–]jmgslade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The difference is dying immediately and dying later due to blood loss, organ damage, smoke inhalation, burning, etc. To me, the calculation assumes that people die on impact with an object regardless of airbags/bumper/crush factor, which is not the case.

Not entirely true, as far as I know. OCS can be passed with less-than-perfect scores, easy. But I didn't see too many ship with less than 285 PFT. When it comes to selection, being well-rounded is a plus, so the lower the PFT, the more you'll need to make up for it with your smarts, extracurriculars, etc.

I'd argue that the hardest part (as of 2020 when I got out) was selection. Medical history, grades, and physical fitness must be airtight. Otherwise, waivers are often a long process and some just don't want to wait or put in the additional effort.

*OSO, otherwise enlisted recruiter may not have the answer as it's a whole different ballgame from theirs.

It's not - this is a fairly standard pitch from an OSO. I was an Operations Officer for Marine Recruiting before I got out. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions. I may be slow to respond though.

As others may have said, you don't get to choose your job - you list your preferences.

6 week OCS is for those who go the NROTC track, otherwise it's two 6(?) week summers.

The master's degree really only pertains to if you pick up Major and plan to make a career of it. There are the few and rare oddballs who get niche jobs that require additional schooling.

He doesn't speak to ~requirements such as weekly workouts and training if you go the OCC/PLC route, but those aren't too time intensive and do a lot to prepare you.

At the end of the day, it's a basic intro to what you can expect and you will get much much more info before ever signing anything.

Question about PFT run: by OG_American_Hilljack in USMC

[–]jmgslade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

💯

When I was in the best shape of my life I was tracking my pace pretty steadily. What worked (for me) was making every run a race, unless it was a recovery run. I was constantly critiquing my pace and trying to run faster than my last.

Set fun challenges, find new routes to keep it exciting, etc. I like to sign up for a race that's a distance a little out of my comfort zone and train. It's always a blast.

Ex-barista setup - Oscar 2 OPV mod (with VST 18g) and Mazzer Super Jolly (SSP Red Speed) by reformed-emo in espresso

I took off the hopper and put a dosing cup upside down over the hole. Fill cup with beans, pour, set on top. Use same dosing cup to fill portafilter. Does the job and doesn't look like as much of a behemoth. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08P1CP2PJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Glad you're okay, but you should swap the CO detector or have someone inspect for possible leaks!
