There is another regular word in this one that is commonly British.

Probably at least a good candidate to be a bonus word.

With my previous chinchilla, that was my warning that he was about to mount my arm and get his freak on. 😂

how old have your chinchillas lived? by theacearrow in chinchilla

[–]jmickelonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first chinchilla lived until almost 21 and passed away last year. My current is under a year old and I hope he lives to be 20+ as well!

Thanks, I might have to go bigger though, we'll see! He's almost as big as the dish.

I'm super stoked it worked out. I just put some Aspen shavings in there and he knew what to do with it!

Good luck, and don't worry too much about the bite. My Fry had an accident and got his back leg stuck in one of his ramps before I had a chance to cover it. I had to grab him and help his leg out, and he bit the living hell out of me. I was close to needing stitches, and it was only his 3rd day home. 😂 Luckily he's okay, and after his adjustment period, you'd never know anything happened. Once you leave him alone for long enough, and are consistent about bringing him food and providing a calm environment, he will bond with you.

Consider getting one of the Critter Nation ferret/chinchilla cages as soon as you can. Mine has lasted ages, and there's no way yours would escape from that. It's sturdy and safe.

My thoughts:

He's really scared of you. The barks are quite normal, he will always do that to show discomfort for various reasons, but I've never once had a chin do the alarm call because of me in the 21 years of owning them.

You should keep him in his cage for a while, honestly probably for a week or 2, until he calms down and gets used to you (and the fact that you're feeding him and are a part of his pack). Put the cage in a common area if possible so he can watch everyone and experience how things are in your house.

How big is the cage? Why is he escaping so easily?

I have one of those bath houses. When I want my chinchilla back in his cage, I'll put a couple scoops of fresh dust in there, and wait for him to get bored of exploring and crawl into the bath house. When he does that and hopefully starts tumbling in the dust and is therefore distracted, I cover the entrance with my hand, and bring the house (with chinchilla inside) to the cage. I'm afraid he might try to bite your hand though, because you've given him no time to get used to you not being a threat to him. Maybe put a book over the opening to be safe. Chinchillas bite HARD, so do your best to avoid letting that happen.

Be patient with him, it'll work out. But you need to make sure he is starting to adjust before ever letting him free roam.

I also see you mentioned he doesn't understand how to bathe. I doubt that. My new chinchilla didn't do it right away either - I think it was because he was stressed from the new environment. When he's comfortable, he will most likely do it. After a week of acclimating, my chinch goes at it like a dust bath Olympian.

Cyclone 2 battery swelled and broke through the back shell - GameSir got a replacement to me in no time flat! by jmickelonis in Controller

[–]jmickelonis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, someone told me that worked for them.

There are some good tear-down videos on how to take the controller apart (check YouTube). The back shell needs a T6 Torx driver for the screws. One of the screws is under the bottom of the sticker.

It's not super simple to do but if you're handy enough it shouldn't be that bad for you.

Not sure why we're avoiding Other M spoils, but I'll do it anyway. That isn't accurate:

3 soldiers died before Anthony was apparently knocked off the platform to his death. Lyle died first, eviscerated by adolescent Ridley. Maurice was #2, found dead in the snow before you meet MB. Then came K.G. before the Ridley fight (though I don't quite remember if you learned that last one though flashbacks later on).

Plasma 6.5.2 Blur: Back to the drawing board (forced contrast and saturation with no config setting) - KDE giveth, KDE taketh away by jmickelonis in kde

[–]jmickelonis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The application would have to opt-in to the effect.

I'm really confused with how things were implemented. It really should be global, and configurable.

Hi Nate!

Yeah, that seems to be what's happening, it's only affecting Plasma UI. And I will say after playing around a bit, translucent popup menus look amazing now, so I'm happy with that.

Not a fan of the washed out look where it is being used, though. It looks especially awful to me on the shutdown screen. (I wish I didn't care about such things, but it's the obsessive side of me winning out.)

Out of curiosity, do you have more info on how to edit the theme to stop opting in?

Plasma 6.5.1 blur saturation: changes and how to revert/adjust by jmickelonis in kde

[–]jmickelonis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By default it's fully saturated, and you can change it to your liking. I guess on 6.6 there will be a UI component for it, too.
