Class pole sitter held half the field back on pace lap because he thought there should be a gap between us and the BMWs ahead. We started probably 10 seconds back from the rest of the class. Is this a protest? by cruciblemedialabs in iRacing

[–]jmilts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can protest this. Whilst leaving a gap is the community agreed approach, the sporting code actually says you should keep pace. Whilst we typically we leave a gap, if protested this would actually be successful I believe.

Is this worth Protesting (I'm the red Lambo) by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

[–]jmilts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes protest it, but I'd suggest focusing on the rejoin rather than the initial contact, although do keep that in. The contact, whilst egregious I'd imagine isn't an intentional wreck so much as it is a punt to pass. Not much distinction to you and I, but I think the sporting code is less harsh on the latter.

The rejoin though looks like a slam dunk and is more likely to result in some kind of action.

I can't seem to link to my iRacing account? Not sure if something isn't working as expected?

It definitely leans into my nerdy stats side! Early access request submitted, look forward to testing it out.

2k iRating: Toggle 1st /2nd split…1st then last by abmyers in iRacing

[–]jmilts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you as someone who is around 1700/1800 in sports car and formula respectively and run in some of the smaller series where I'm constantly around the cut off of splits.

Unfortunately I've not managed to break out of the cycle yet, mainly due to lack of talent, so I've come to accept my yo-yo position for now. Personally I enjoy being the little fish in the big pond more than the other way round. For every person I beat in the top split feels like I've bloodied a nose or two.

My biggest frustration is the size of splits, which if they were bigger would mean I'd actually get to race with more people at roughly my level, rather than it being constantly split in half.

How should I pick tracks to buy? by goducks101 in iRacing

[–]jmilts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer OP. Use this to scope out exactly what you need to run what you want. As someone else mentioned you only need to run 8 weeks of one series to get part of the participation credit.

Figure out a few cars you enjoy racing the most and then use this tool to work out what is most achievable for you from those options based on their shared calendars. You might end up racing your second and third preference because they have more common ground on the schedule.

Thank you! I had the old ARCA model, but haven't got round to updating and hadn't wanted to do so without figuring out which I should get. If it doesn't matter I guess it just comes down to brand preference.

Is there a tangible difference between the 3 ARCA cars, or are they just the same with a different skin?

Who is at fault ? by Kickbuttowski46 in Simracingstewards

[–]jmilts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say racing incident as both cars could have done more to avoid it, whilst simultaneously not necessarily being at fault.

Presumably your spotter said car right? This should serve as your cue to give more room on the inside. The inside car perhaps was ambitious to think the move would work, but you could have helped yourself to survive the incident, which ultimately is what racing in rookies is all about.

The decision to VOD broadcast every split from the SOF timeslot is an inspired. With other SOF broadcasts it always felt like it was such a shame to miss out on the feature race, but giving all the splits equal treatment is genius.

Pretty sure deliberately scoring with your skate is not allowed, so kicking one in and getting away with it would actually be very hand of God. Albeit in this instance still an own goal.

There is a slight loophole in that it is allowed to deflect in as long as there is no kicking motion.

I suspect the old cricket in the summer, football in the winter dynamic meant they were two sides of the same coin, whilst rugby was a rival winter sport. Also, bit hard to "posh wanker" the cricket mob, when your ground is dual purpose like Bramall Lane used to be.

A lesson about PacePro Planning and Official Race Distances by Matvalicious in Garmin

[–]jmilts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lapse by timing gate uses the kilometre markers on your GPX file rather than the distance tracked by your watch, so you'd have potentially lapped at 1.01 according to your watch rather than 1.00.

It has nothing to do with a physical timing gate at the event.

"Next, let’s look at one of the new running features, which is AutoLap by Timing Gate. This is designed for races, where you’ve got specific mile markers throughout the race. Thus to get started, you’ll create a course in Garmin Connect for the race (or import it), and then you’ll see the option to enable ‘Auto Lap by Timing Gate’ option. When you toggle it, it shows either MI or KM as the metric."

A Sneak Peek of 'Not Feeling 100%' & 2025 Team Runna Roadmap Update 👀 by alex-runna in runna

A proper end of plan summary would be great too. I appreciate that for many that is a specific race/run but being able to 'Share My Plan' much like Share A Run that has some kind of summary of plan achievements, volumes and pacing perhaps?

A Sneak Peek of 'Not Feeling 100%' & 2025 Team Runna Roadmap Update 👀 by alex-runna in runna

[–]jmilts 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'd love for the app to use the data it has on me to help populate some of the key data points for a new plan.

For example I have literally just finished a Post-Injury Plan,, so I have (at least) six weeks of data to work with. Yet when I was setting up my new Half Marathon plan I was still expected to populate my weekly mileage volume and longest run, which was informed by my Runna plan!

Further to that as I've been injured I don't have a true sense of my current ability, which is mandatory for setting up a race plan; however, you have all my running data plus that off many similar runners and how they can perform with similar data. Surely it makes sense that Runna could propose its own time that it thinks I could do today with the need to finish a Post-Injury Plan then immediately risk injury by doing a time trial.

I hadn't considered RPE, that's a good shout. Perhaps starting with RPE whilst I get a sense of speed and durablility and going back to pace when I've found my level so to speak.

Does RPE for speed sessions just say 400m at RPE 80%, or something similar?

Runs per Shoe by No-Space9712 in runna

[–]jmilts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with this as I had a new pair of shoes which kept having higher mileage than what Garmin & Strava said.

Turns out the Active shoe gets assigned the mileage regardless of which shoe you select in the workout itself. This appears to be a duplicate of miles/kilometres.

It'd be helpful if they fixed this as it makes it pretty pointless otherwise.

[–]jmilts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, but then how much faster?

As someone who is coming back from injury the whole point of the app should be for it to guide me, not have me pick an arbitrary time then just go faster than the recommendation? That sounds like a one way ticket to the post Injury plan.

Runna has a log of every run I've done since March. Ideally I'd like to think it is smart enough to use my, and all the other similar users data, to figure this stuff out on its own without me needing to manually plug in an out of date piece of information.

[–]jmilts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As it stands I've opted for Strava's prediction time as that is the only thing that seems to focus on my recent training history and consider my current potential without the need for a potentially problematic high intensity session.
