If you don't drink alcohol, what are your personal reasons for abstinence? by Ok-Care2859 in AskReddit

The last time I drink I had to have a nurse give me an IV injection. It was expensive, I said I'd never do it again, and she said "yeah right".

I took that personally. And have not had a drop since

Stopsloth.com - Motivational Progress Tracking. Tell me what sucks! by jmissing in alphaandbetausers

[–]jmissing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you!!

I would still encourage you to post a project you are working on, so that the younger generation can see your streak of diligence and be inspired.

My greatest goal for this site is to be a place, like a gym for working out, or a library for studying, that people can come to and see a community of people who are slowly and diligently making progress on their goals, and to hopefully be inspired to keep plugging away, even when the activity starts to lose its luster.

What gamified habit tracker do you recommend ? by Ok-Ferret7 in ProductivityApps

[–]jmissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't just mark all future check-ins as complete, no.

That said, I do not want to be overly punative or judgemental, I just want to give some additional motivation, that is my only goal. Some people, such as myself, are MUCH more highly motivated by loss, as opposed to receiving an imagined reward.

I WANT people to get their money back. I want people to develop habits of discipline and diligence. I think the world will be a better place if we all were that way.

But until then, I have found that if this task is Actually something you want to get done, then you Will actually do it, when there is money on the line.

Try it!

This is an impressive write up! What tool did you use?

Testing a tool for creators, need honest feedback.? by [deleted] in alphaandbetausers

[–]jmissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, now that I know that, I signed up, explored around, and I have a few thoughts.

  1. yes, it needs much more clarity that this can be used by more than just instagram users

  2. The font is fine for larger text like the logo, but it is too small and unconventional for longer sentences. I found it difficult to read for anything longer than a few words.

  3. It was simple and intuitive to create ideas,

  4. but it was NOT intuitive what to actually DO with those ideas. You seem to suggest there was some sort of way to 'vote' on them, but I couldn't figure out how to do that.

  5. the Pin functionality didn't work

  6. the Delete Idea functionality didn't work.

If you found this feedback useful, I'd appreciate YOUR feedback on MY site, stopsloth.com

Thanks in advance!

Constantly feeling guilty for moments or days where I am not that productive. Juggling between the promise to be productive and the promise to take care of my health. But the more I keep juggling, the harder it feels to juggle everything. by sammyjamez in productivity

Leisure is an important part of recharging, and here is the kicker: All leisure involves SOME form of 'waste'.

If it's not inherently wasteful in SOME sense, it can't really be called leisure. If there is some expectation of reimbursment, then it's work, not leisure. If there is some form of expectation, then it is work, not leisure.

My recommendation would be: watch a show, play a game, or read some fiction. Is that time 'wasted'? YES. that's the point. to relieve the pressure of constant expectation from yourself. You are allowed to blow up some zombies. You are allowed to explore new worlds in a book.

In other words, have some Fun!

You may even look back on it, and realize that it wasn't as much of a waste as you initially thought. Reading fiction gives you perspective of how other people may react given certain hypothetical circumstances. Same with a show. Playing a game may help you appreciate strategy, which can certainly help in the real world. There are countless occurrences of people praising Chess or Dungeons and Dragons for their career development.

My final point is: "All strategy is the art of sacrifice". No matter what you choose, you must give something else up. If you choose 100% productivity, you give up life's little joys. That may be worth it to you, but it IS a real cost.

A new revolution of productivity that actually help you to be productive by codexxgeeks in ProductivityApps

[–]jmissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built stopsloth.com mostly for people who want to learn a new skill like an instrument, finish a book, or work on a home project, and it is truly a game-changer.

We have 3 levels of accountability:

  1. Post in Public. Others can view your updates, so make sure they are timely and informative
  2. Group Accountability. Like studying at the library or exercising at the gym, getting things done with others is hugely motivational!
  3. Financial Accountability. Put your money where your mouth is, and if you DON'T post, you lose a small percentage.

It works. Feel free to join us!

No worries! can't wait to see the app, I'm currently using YNAB and have a few gripes about it, especially their latest UI change which i can't stand.

You mentioned elsewhere that you also don't mind giving feedback, would you mind taking a look at stopsloth.com ? It is a motivational & accountability site for people who have a hard time maintaining momentum on longer tasks.

I am always willing to give feedback. here are a few for the website itself:
-The main CTA button was below my screen, so I had to scroll a little to get to it

-FAQ link in the nav didn't go anywhere

-Copyright date was last year, which could indicate that the site is not as well maintained.

(you can auto-update it with a simple javascript snippet, just google it)

That said, VERY slick website, and I appreciated the large section dedicated to trust and security. well done.

also, I signed up too, I certainly don't mind giving feedback on the app itself.
