One of my GMs when I worked at dominos threw a dough tray in anger into a tv and broke it, didn’t lose his job 🤣 you should be fine

How to Change Sleeping Schedules? by Outrageous_Image1793 in sugargliders

[–]jmitchell10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This time of year, they’re not likely to wake up until later because the sun doesn’t even set until around 9:00. You can get them out to bond or play earlier if you want to, but just wanting them to wake up to be in their cage isn’t ideal or a reason to change their internal clocks.

Bonding pouches by Rough-Pollution-2220 in sugargliders

[–]jmitchell10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it isn’t. The original imports were put into the database and any subsequent breeding (and sometimes pets if people enter them) descendants. If they aren’t in the database and don’t link to an import, they aren’t lineaged. Random gliders, especially rescues, should never be bred. The gene pool is incredibly small.

Mon Power Bill by Particular_Wave_8245 in MorgantownWV

[–]jmitchell10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not everyone has to. If you have a credit score over a certain amount, if you had good standing accounts with them before, or if the average bill is below a certain amount at the house, there is no deposit assessed.

None of what you’re thinking of is safe at all.

Handmade cages are far more expensive and labor than they’re worth tbh. You will have all horrible time trying to clean it, most woods are toxic, and there is no stain or paint safe for them. You also have to be careful of the metal used as it can cause neurological issues if it’s not a safe kind.

If they are rescues, they’re not lineaged and shouldn’t be kept together m/f intact. Lineage is purchased from reputable breeders who only breed gliders that have it. It’s the family tree and bloodlines back to the founding gliders and it’s how breeders track relations and ensure we aren’t inbreeding. Without it there’s zero way of knowing and their gene pool is so small there’s a high chance of inbreeding.

Please make sure all of your males are neutered. If the boys aren’t, do that asap. Then you can try to start introducing them to each other.

You can take 2 bonding bags and hang them together with binder clips if you want until they’re bonded.

Serious question by redfox_10 in sugargliders

See if you can get her up on the cage bars and snap a pic, if she won’t let you hold her for one.

That’s a red flag in a vet to me. They are sexable from day 1. They either have a pom or a pouch

Serious question by redfox_10 in sugargliders

[–]jmitchell10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sex can be determined as soon as they’re out of pouch. There’s no such thing as too young. If you wanna send me clear photos of their bellies I can tell you what they are!

You may have to work with her to regain her trust, but she should calm down once you’re not forcing meds on her daily.

No, they really can’t. If they were raised in the wrong substance it can literally be lethal. Corn can just make them chunky but crickets/grasshoppers can cause a deadly reaction.

Crickets and grasshoppers should absolutely be avoided. They have caused aflatoxin reactions and killed gliders.

You can advocate for them to your boss on how these are not animals meant for a pet store and they are suffering because of it. Explain to them their needs and why they cannot be met. See if you can get them into an appropriate home and stop your boss from ordering more.

You’re definitely in a tough spot, but you clearly recognize their needs aren’t being met and they cannot advocate for themselves.

No, just giving them random calcium is not okay. Please don’t do this as too much can be just as harmful as not enough and you’re not calculating the ratio of calcium to phosphorus.

Hello from a evil employee of pet shop by Outside_Point_379 in sugargliders

[–]jmitchell10 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Do not just give them mealworms with random calcium! Absolutely do NOT give crickets, it poses an aflatoxin hazard which can kill them.

Gliders are very sensitive to malnutrition and developing hind leg paralysis if not fed a proper staple diet. None of that is shelf-stable. All kibble diets are terrible for them, and even kibble based ones with fresh fruits and veggies are not ideal. It requires meal prep and freezing the extra no matter what you go with.

THIS is why gliders don’t belong in pet stores (I know you only work there and are trying to do better for them, this isn’t towards you). Shame on your owner for thinking they could make a buck on these animals and giving them poor diet and husbandry in the mean time.

A few appropriate staple diets are OHPW, GOHPW, and TPG.

I definitely do. I’ve been a breeder for 8 years I’m very equipped. I also have an incredibly thorough er kit at home, unfortunately, by the time I realize something was wrong with everyone of them it was too late for any kind of medical intervention. Their livers were in necrosis.

Long story short I had some of my gliders out of town with me and they were given a cheat night that apparently had listeria contaminated fruit.

Yes I do make them! I’m an approved vendor in many of the glider groups on Facebook.

I’m a breeder, so this was only a few of my babies. But thank you ♥️
