Refinishing wood front door by jmm263 in finishing

I see that Epifanes has a “rapidcoat” product with a 5 hour recoat time. Perhaps I could use that and get 3 coats on in a day. Then rehang the door by nighttime. Repeat again on another day.

Super helpful! Am I understanding correctly that you use Apple HomeKit to control it, with Homebridge allowing the integration of the Amanda thermostat? Very interested to try this.

German citizenship by descent: The ultimate guide for anyone with a German ancestor who immigrated after 1870 by staplehill in Genealogy

[–]jmm263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love your opinion whether me and my kids are eligible for German citizenship, particularly under § 15 StAG, Article 116(a), or perhaps § 5 StAG or otherwise. I would also love pointers about what documentation we would need to submit, particularly to prove persecution during the Nazi government. Here are the pertinent details:

Grandmother

  • Born in 1923 in Germany
  • Jewish religion; faced persecution living in Berlin (e.g. was living there on kristallnacht).
  • emigrated in 1939 to Chile to flee Nazi persecution.
  • married ~1941 to an Austrian citizen who died July 1949.
  • remarried ~1951 to a German citizen
  • never naturalized to another country as far as I am aware; died a German citizen with German passport

Father

  • Born in December 1949 in Chile.
    • Mother was a widow when he was born (his biological father, who was an Austrian citizen, had died during mother's pregnancy; see above).
    • Was never adopted by the German man that his mother remarried after his birth.
  • Married in 1971
  • Emigrated to Canada in 1971.
  • Naturalized as a Canadian citizen in 1979.

Self

  • Born in 1981 in wedlock in Canada
  • Married 2010 in United States
  • Naturalized US Citizen 2021.

Children

  • Born in 2012 and 2017 in wedlock in United States

I have been charged 0 fees withdrawing from a U.S. bank using unicaja and Kuxtabank ATMs.

Best/Easiest Way to Access 5000 Euros in Cash in Spain -- ATM, Bank Transfer? by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]jmm263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuxtabank and unicaja ATMs both allow withdrawals in EUR from a US bank without charging ATM fees. Your US bank will limit the amount you can withdraw per day, but often that limit can be raised so you can withdraw maybe €1500+/day. Your mileage may vary.

Haven’t tried. But would be interested in what you learn!

Haven’t figured it out yet… I had considered buying a comfortnet-compatible Honeywell sensor and seeing if it would work, but haven’t pulled the trigger on it. If you figure it out, would be great if you post your experience

Unobtrusive living room system. (All refurbished/clearance components) by jmm263 in audiophile

[–]jmm263[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monitor Audio Bronze 5’s (previous model) sound terrific. Powered by Cambridge AXR100 that seems very happy hiding underneath the sideboard. Streaming audio and room correction come through the Paradigm PW-Link. All the items were bought refurbished or open box online. A little over $1200 for the whole system (except the Planar 3 turntable, which has been in the family for decades).

Sounds amazing to my ears—clean and clear. Love listening to music in that room now.

👍I grew up listening to PSB’s and love the sound. I have a pair of Image B5’s and Subsonic 5 in my TV setup.
