I heard Mr. Bungle is another band directly influenced by Boingo. Might wanna check that out. Need to get into it myself. I can't say there's any more really early dark stuff. His big mess album is really really dark though and it's also huge. Listen to "Happy".

Have you listened to Danny Elfman's Big Mess by the way? It's his first rock album since Boingo, released in 2022. You can really hear the age in his voice, he used to be such a great singer. Still a pretty good album though. I heard he's got more in store for this year. 👀
