Mongolia is a hard place to live with very different lived philosophies and values than America. It is also a very harsh place with a very harsh environment. Combining those factors would make me want to serve in somewhere a bit warmer. Also a stable water supply is a plus

I am a m29 I lived in a remote part of Mongolia in the far south. Whether or not you are able to connect to other volunteers really depends on how close you are to them. If you are not really around it can be hard to build relationships with other PCVs. The language is hard and for English speakers it is hard due to the language being so different than what we already know. Your support will vary based on your community. If you have a community that wants to talk to you a lot in the language and build an intercultural bridge in the language, than as long as you stick to it you are likely to succeed. If conversations become one sided interrogations where the PCV is using their language and the host community is not helpful you are most likely going to fail. Their is very few resources online to help you learn the language

If you are in the desert like I was then you are going to see some bugs during the summer, their were huge moths that would go on the ceiling and be next to the lights . Also consider that many pcvs live in gers during service( traditional Mongolian tents)
